Abstract

1,014,867. Welding by pressure. K. V. SLEE. Feb. 19, 1964 [Nov. 21, 1962], No. 44065/62. Heading B3R. A welding head 1 carrying an electrode 3 is guided for straight line movement in the frame 2 of a welding machine by rectilinear roller bearings each having a series of rollers 9 movable along V-grooves 14 in races in the frame 2 and head 1, some of the rollers of each series rolling upon different surfaces of the V grooves. The races 10, 13 on the frame 2 are laterally adjustable. The head 1 is actuatable manually hydraulically or pneumatically. The actuating mechanism may be a foot pedal operated lever device connected by a compression spring to the welding head 1. When at the required welding pressure the spring is compressed a predetermined amount, a microswitch operates to cause a pulse of welding current to be supplied to the electrode 3.
