Door furniture for a right- or left-hand opening door comprises a plate or housing 10, Fig. 1 and a fastening member 14 turnable relative thereto and having a portion adapted to project from the edge of the door into a slot 161 and a catch plate 16 on the door jamb, the catch plate being provided with a pair of convergent surfaces 162 such that as the fastening member 14 is turned to its fastening position, it exerts a camming action on the surfaces 162 of the catch plate to force the door on to its seating. The fastening member 14 which is combined with a knob and rotatably secured by a self-locking washer 15 in the plate or housing 10 is so shaped that in the unfastened position thereof a straight edge of the member lies flush with the edge of a door 12. Rotation of the member 14 is limited by a spring loaded ball 17 and recess 106 on the member 14 and plate respectively. In another arrangement, Fig. 6, a cam member is rotatably mounted within a housing 20 for co-operation with a latch plate 23, the cam member being operable by a handle 204 against a spring pressed ball and being reversible on its spindle according to whether or not the housing 20 is to be fitted to a door which opens inwardly or to one which opens outwardly.
