Abstract

The invention relates to the flock-covering of fragile supports requiring to be made resistant to wear and tear. The structure can be used particularly for seats, but also for mattresses, door panels, loudspeaker units, toys, sports equipment, lamps, tables, upholstery, carpets, etc., and is particularly intended for use on furniture or in cars. It comprises a support which in the present case is fragile, e.g. moulded or cut plastic foam padding [quilted upholstery] (1), a specific adhesive layer (2), and a flock which forms the outer surface (3). This method gives the fragile substrate to which the flock is to be applied a flexible and resilient shell to which the flock will normally be affixed, thus making the structure resistant to wear and tear.

Description

I- DESCRIPTION DE L'INVENTION :
I- DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
10) Field of the invention
The present invention relates to the flocking of fragile supports for which abrasion and tear resistance is required.
I1 trait of a structure which can be used in particular for seats, but also for mattresses, door panels, loudspeakers, toys, sporting goods, lamps, tables trimmings, carpets, etc ..., and intended in particular for furnishing or to the automobile.

20) Description of the state of the art
Traditionally, the flocking technique uses an adhesive whose essential role is to hold the flock on the support to be flocked.

However, if the support collecting the flock remains fragile, the flocked assembly will prove to be fragile since the adhesives of the flocking technique cannot reinforce it.
This problem of the weakness of the substrate does not make it possible to apply a flock to it for which all a resistance to friction is required.

30) Summary of the invention
The process described in the present invention makes it possible to resolve this difficulty:
It provides the fragile support to be flocked with a flexible and elastic shell on which the flock will normally attach, ensuring that the assembly has resistance to tearing and abrasion.

The use of this material, in this case the polyurethane elastomer, for a new application in the flocking technique makes it possible for the first time to solve the problem of the resistance of fragile supports on which friction resistance is imperative. .

According to a first characteristic, the structure comprises a support, in this case fragile, such as a padding in molded or cut plastic foam (i), a specific adhesive layer (2), and a flock which constitutes the external surface (3).

The padding (1), molded or cut, will preferably be made of flexible polyurethane foam with a density of the order of 40 to 60 g / l.

The adhesive layer (2) is preferably obtained by applying a flexible polyurethane elastomer with a hardness of about 60 shore A, the content of which can be very diluted, but it is also possible to use latex or an elastomer acrylic, or a rigid polyurethane elastomer if the padding is made of rigid foam.

The outer surface (3) consists of a synthetic, natural or mixed flock, preferably polyamide.

According to a particular embodiment, the specific adhesive layer (2) may not be covered with flock (3) and constitute the finishing layer.

50) Detailed description
An embodiment of the structure according to the method according to the present invention is shown in the accompanying drawing.

In this embodiment, the structure comprises a support, in this case fragile, such as a padding in molded or cut foam (1), a specific adhesive layer (2), and a flock which constitutes the outer surface (3). .

In a first operating stage, the padding (i) is either molded by foaming the liquid foam resin introduced into the foaming mold, or cut from a block of foam. Preferably, a polyurethane foam with a density of the order of 40 to 60 g / l will be used.

After demolding or cutting, an adhesive layer (2) is applied to the upholstery during a second operating stage. This is preferably obtained by applying a flexible polyurethane elastomer with a hardness of around 60 shore A, the content of which may also be diluted.

In a third operating stage, the flakes (3), made of synthetic fibers, natural or mixed, are engaged in the adhesive layer (2) by electrostatic and / or pneumatic means.

It should be noted that variations of the previous embodiment can be made without departing from the characteristics and advantages of the present invention. Consequently, they are included within the scope of the appended claims.
