Abstract

The vice is used in engineering workshops etc., and utilises wedge section jaw liners which automatically bear down on the jaw tracks or slip surfaces. Each liner is tapered when viewed in vertical cross section, having a vertical active face whilst increasing uniformly in thickness towards the base. The inclined aft face abuts a parallel jaw face, the arrangement ensuring that clamping forces push the liners downwards. Magnets built into the jaw may hold the liners in place, and a relatively hard rubber bearing pad may be provided. A jaw pin may engage a curtailed vertical rear face liner groove to prevent relative lateral movement.
