Abstract

The foot and stem are pressed in a split die and simultaneously attached to a bowl to make the goblet. The bowl is lowered onto the split die for the pressing operation via a hydraulic cylinder (HC), which then lifts the complete goblet out of the open die. The HC is located on a traverse supported by two vertical pillars; and one pillar carries a vertically adjustable holder for a burner slide. The HC lifts the completed goblet, so a second HC can move the burner slide until a baseplate on the slide can be used as a table on which the goblet can stand; and gas burners on the slide provide line-shaped flames melting the seams on the stem and/or the foot, the seams being caused by the split die. Automatic removal of unsightly seams is achieved without the use of highly skilled manual labour.
