Abstract

Furnace consists of three separate chambers which are arranged in a cascade so that the melt can flow from one to the next. The first is for melting and extraction of iron scrap, the second for collection of the melt and for melting pure aluminium scrap, and the third is for refining. This furnace can process aluminium scrap both with and without iron admixtures. It has a high throughput, low metal losses and requires little labout. The first chamber at the highest level is charged with aluminium scrap, containing iron, by a belt conveyor after the cover has been shifted. The molten aluminium flows through a channel while the iron scrap is removed from the hearth through an opening on the side.
