Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the refining capacity per volume of a smelting furnace by providing a rotary type preliminary reaction furnace as a pretreatment device to the smelting furnace of refining processes for metal sulfide ore.
CONSTITUTION: In refining of sulfide ore such as copper, zinc and the like, a rotary type preliminary reaction furnace 2 is connected as a pretretment process before a smelting furnace 1. The metal sulfide ore is charged from a hopper 4 into the furnace 2, where it is heated to 900W950°C with the high temp. waste gas from the furnace 1, and is oxidized by oxygen or air introduced through a lance 5, whereby its content of sulfur is decreased to about 20%. This ore enters the furnace 1 as clinker, where it is subjected to main oxidation smelting reaction with oxygen, air, etc. from a main lance 8 to form mat and slag. These go through a slag cleaning furnace 9 and a converter 10, whereby they are refined to crude copper, etc. The heat retained by the waste gas of the melting furnace is utilized, and the improvement in the refining capacity by the increase in sulfur oxidation reaction volume in the melting furnace is made possible.
