Abstract

Appts. for breaking up screw by spraying with a reactant such as caustic soda soln. includes revolving cutter blade on a circular disc which cooperates with stationary counter blades. Prongs inside th ring of blades feed the straw to the latter. The spray nozzles are arranged to inject the reactant liq. into the air stream of a blower which carried away the broken up and sprayed chaff. Bales of straw are automatically cut up and the split stalks are sprayed uniformly both on the inside and outside by the atomised liq.
