Abstract

A plastic box having a rolled lip is provided with an oblique lip to the external flange of the rim so that a lid with a stepped rim and an internal rib or studs can positively engage the edge of the rim of the box. The boxes is esp. intended for holding deep-frozen foodstuffs. Once fitted, the lid cannot be removed without destroying the lower part of the skirt on the rim of the box. The stepped profiles allow the lid to be refitted snugly with an adequate seal, but it is evident when the container has previously been opened. Both the box and lid rim profiles are reasonably simple to mould. The engagement surfaces between the lid and the edge of the box rim may be continuous or discontinuous.
