Abstract

The shaped body is present in the form of a preform or a coating of soldering- or welding-material preforms. The shaped body consists of a flux mixture and a binding agent. The binding agents are copolymers of ethylene and propylene and/or copolymers of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide. The shaped body exhibits high adhesion on metal backing, is highly insensitive to fracture, has high bendability and is insensitive to moisture. The thermal decomposition leads neither to soot formation nor to a smell nuisance. Such shaped bodies are produced by mixing the flux components, homogeneous wetting with the binding agent, either by a thermoplastic method or with the aid of organic solvents, and shaping the mass obtained. Shaped flux bodies in the form of a coating of wire-shaped solder material permit simultaneous flux and solder feeding to a soldering point. Bodies of this type in the form of wires can be wound on spools on account of their high ductility and can be used in soldering machines.
