Description
The present invention relates to molded flux bodies in the form of a molded part or a coating of solder or welding material molded parts, consisting of a flux mixture and a binder, which have particularly favorable properties with regard to being insensitive to breakage, flexibility, odor nuisance and moisture repellency, and to a method for the production of such moldings.
Fluxes supported the work process both in soldering and in welding technology. The fluxes are used as powders, suspensions or as solder pastes. In many cases, the combined use of flux and solder in the form of coated or coated stamped parts or wires has also proven to be advantageous.
In general, however, the fluxes adhere very poorly to the metallic solder molded parts, even if the metal surface is roughened. In addition, even with the utmost care in the packaging, transport damage occurs in which large parts of the flux flake off.
The use of flux molded parts and flux-coated stamped or molded parts therefore usually fails due to the lack of adhesion to the solder metal and the lack of ductility of the flux molded body.
The production of flux-coated solder moldings and moldings from flux is known (e.g. DE-OS 2 428 808), but the lack of adhesive strength and ductility largely limits its use. An organic or inorganic binder is added to the flux. The high demands that are placed on the flux coating and shaped body are only met by a binding agent, which both increases the adhesiveness and also allows the coated solder molded parts to bend by at least 90 ° due to high ductility, but does not leave any sooting residues during the soldering process or in another way negatively affects the flow behavior of the flux. An unpleasant smell when melting the flux is also undesirable. Thus cellulose derivatives, polymethacrylates (DE-OS 2 336 442) and polyvinyl resins (CH-PS 588 325) do not achieve a high quality standard due to their Russians and their unpleasant odors.
Crumbling of the flux from the metal base could only be limited insignificantly by the incorporation of inorganic and / or metallic fibers (DE-OS 2 529 190).
It was an object of the invention to show a shaped body which does not have the disadvantages described above.
This object is achieved by the inventive aspect defined in claim 1.
Typically, the flux mix contains potassium tetraborate, boric acid, as well as free and complex fluoride, which mixture is advantageously mixed with a solution of swollen ethylene propylene rubber in gasoline.
The molded article according to the invention is produced by intimately mixing the flux components, wetting them homogeneously with the binder and shaping the mass obtained to give molded parts or coatings. The binder is advantageously swollen in an organic solvent. Many organic solvents are suitable as swelling agents for this. In practice, however, petrol fractions with a boiling range around 100 ° C have proven particularly useful, in particular a boiling range from 80 to 200 ° C.
A thorough mixing of all components, which ultimately leads to a highly viscous paste, is achieved e.g. preferably a high-speed mixer.
The molded body described shows good wettability for the solder metal and high ductility. In addition, there is no residue or odor nuisance during thermal decomposition.
Polyethylene or other compounds with a long-chain aliphatic structure (stearin, waxes, fatty acids) decompose into carbon-rich fragments under the intense action of the soldering flame, which ultimately float as soot residue in the flux melt.
Polypropylene actually burns soot-free. A Russian can also be noticed when exposed to strong heat without oxygen.
Only the copolymerization of ethylene and propylene combines the advantages of ductility and residue-free thermal decomposition in the desired way. The residue-free thermal decomposition can be explained by the disintegration into small fragments that escape in gaseous form before they are subjected to further thermal stress.
In addition to pure ethylene-propylene copolymers, polyethylene-propylene binders with aliphatic side chains can also be used. Copolymers of ethylene and propylene oxide have also proven successful. Aromatic building blocks or other unsaturated components in the polymer are less suitable.
The proportion of the binder in the dry mixture can be 0.5 to 30 percent by weight. The weight average molecular weight Mw of the copolymers is preferably 50,000-500,000. The decomposition products smell paraffin-like and therefore do not interfere.

This mixture is processed in the usual way to form bodies, applied in an electrode press to brazing rods or to other solder molded parts.
The flux coatings or layers adhere so strongly to their metallic base that such solder parts can be cut without the layer flaking off. Molded parts, even narrow spirals, can be bent from such flux-coated rods. This ductility of the flux layer enables easy processing. During soldering, annoying odor nuisances are avoided, as they occur with similar solders with cellulose derivatives or acrylates as binders.
Diese Flussmittelformteile sind ausserdem feuchtigkeitsabweisend. These molded flux parts are also moisture-repellent.

This solvent-free mixture leads to similar properties to the products made from solvent-containing pastes. However, the processing time is shortened considerably because the evaporation of solvent residues takes several hours.
Flux shaped bodies according to the invention in the form of a coating of wire-shaped solder material enable simultaneous supply of flux and solder to a solder joint. This has the particular advantage that shaped bodies combined in this way can be used in soldering machines, since they can be wound onto coils because of their ductility.
