Abstract

A flexible coupling between two coaxial shafts includes two steel balls which are used as torque transmission elements. The smaller one of the shafts is provided with a transverse open ended slot. Two radial external ball pockets are located at right angles to the shaft slot. The second, larger shaft has a central hole with two opposite axial keyways. When the coupling is being assembled, the smaller shaft, with a transmission ball in each pocket, is inserted into the hollow shaft. As the two steel balls are also partially located by the two keyways, they provide a flexible and self-aligning coupling.
