Abstract

A universal joint consists of a cylindrical component (8) which is the driven part and a spherical body (2) with a shaft extension (3) coupled to the drive. Perpendicular to the drive shaft (3), the sphere (2) has two opposite spigots (4) which carry a roller (5) each. The sphere (2) with the rollers (5) are located in a round hole and two opposite axial recesses (7) inside body (8). When transmitting a torque at an angle between input and output shaft, axial movement between the two component takes place. This movement causes the roller (5) to rotate, thus the friction losses are reduced to a minimum.
