Abstract

783,543. Hinges. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES)., Ltd., J. Sept. 20, 1955 [Oct. 14, 1954], No. 29609/54. Class 65(2) [Also in Group XXXII] A mirror for road vehicles comprises a rigid bracket adapted at one end for attachment to a vehicle and having at its other end a part on which is formed a curved surface, a member having a complementary curved surface which is connected to the bracket to permit of relative angular adjustment, and a reflector holder having a resilient yieldable connection with the member. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the reflector a is secured in a holder consisting of a shell b and a plate c to which is bonded a cylindrical piece e of rubber or like material. A metal piece f is bonded to the piece e and is secured by a screw-threaded stem d and nut i to a socket h provided on the bracket g. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the mirror holder b is secured to a plate c provided with a hollow boss o of truncated conical form at its outer end which is held in position in a recess in a hollow member m by a spring p. The member m has a spherical-shaped portion n which is adjustably secured to the bracket g by an annular clip k. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, a plate c secured to the mirror holder b is bonded to a boss s of rubber or rubber-like material formed with segmental spherical surfaces in contact with washers t, u. The boss is secured to the bracket g by a screwthreaded stem v and securing nut x.
