Abstract

A valve for a sprinkler system has a differential piston with a main bore (11) and an auxiliary adjustable (22) passage (21). The small side (10) of the piston is connected to the supply end (2) whilst the large side (12) operates in a chamber (18) connected via controllable passages (24, 25) to a similar chamber (19) into which the main bore (11) discharges. The second large chamber (19) is plugged by an adjustable (29) piston (27) with a conical outlet. When the passages (24, 25) are closed, pressure in the first chamber (18) rises to the supply valve at a rate regulated by the regulator passage (21). This forces the piston to the left, closed position in a set time, sealing the transfer port (11) on the seat (8). When the passages (24, 25) are opened, pressure in chamber (18) falls and the piston moves to the right until venturi action in the cone (27a) balances it and prevents further movement, the valve remaining open.
