Abstract

High sensitivity magnetically operated circuit breaker is often utilised in association with current transformers and as differential current detectors requiring sensitivity to very low field levels. The switch consists of a fixed armature in the form of a 'U' one of the branches of which carries an energising winding. Set parallel to the non-wound leg is a parallel piped rod permanent magnet which is connected magnetically to the base of the 'U'. Resting on the outer edge of the unwound leg, and trapped there mechanically, is the moving element in the form of a shaped bar carrying a spring against which it works, the fulcrum being the 'U' edge.
