Abstract

A disintegrator for large bulky waste, esp. old automobile tyres and the like, comprises a pair of counter-rotating shafts fitted with cutting discs staggered in position from one shaft to the other so that they intermesh and overlap; a limited number of the cutting discs on each shaft can execute an axial movement against a restoring force when an excessively hard or tough piece of material is encountered, thus preventing damage to the cutters.
