Abstract

A pref. paper transfer sheet coated on one surface with a sublimable dye is passed pref. between upper and lower plates (of which the upper one is heated) together with a fabric web (e.g. polyester jersey knit) such that the coated surface of the transfer sheet contacts the web whereby the heating effect of the upper plate causes the dye to sublime and transfer to the fabric. The transfer sheet is perforated (e.g. by a spiked roller and a pressure differential is set up between the free surface of the transfer sheet and the free surface of the fabric web so that an air flow passes through the transfer sheet and web to positively convey the dye into the fabric web. The upper and lower plates are pref. perforated and the pressure above the upper plate is pref. 0.-6 kilos/cm whilst the pressure below the lower plate is pref. slightly less than atmospheric. Better penetration of the dye is achieved.
