Abstract

IR reflecting glass consists of a sheet of flat glass covered with a first film mainly of Si and a second film mainly of >=1 of TiO2, Al2O3, SiO2, SnO2, Bi2O3, In2O3, CeO2 and ZrO2, the first four being pref. The second film may also contain a small amount of manganese oxide, Cr2O3 or Fe2O3. The first film is pref. 300-400 degrees A thick and the second 300-500 degrees A. Used as glass for windows. The glass permits economies in heating and cooling of building while producing an acceptable combined inside the rooms by reducing heat transmission without too much loss of light transparency, and represents and improvement over glass laminater with one face coated with Cu or Al which can be damaged mechanically. The glass can be used as a single sheet.
