Description

The invention relates to methods of producing a multi-layered value document substrate, value document substrates obtainable by the method and value documents, in particular banknotes, having such a value document substrate.

Wertdokumente im Sinne der Erfindung sind unter anderem Banknoten, Aktien, Anleihen, Urkunden, Gutscheine, Schecks, Flugscheine, hochwertige Eintrittskarten, Etiketten zur Produktsicherung, Kredit- oder Geldkarten, aber auch andere fälschungsgefährdete Dokumente, wie Pässe, Ausweiskarten oder sonstige Ausweisdokumente.Value documents within the meaning of the invention include banknotes, stocks, bonds, certificates, vouchers, checks, air tickets, high-quality entrance tickets, labels for product security, credit or debit cards, but also other forgery-prone documents, such as passports, ID cards or other identity documents.

Value documents, in particular banknotes, are usually made of paper substrates which have special security features, such as a security thread at least partially incorporated into the paper and a watermark, and which are usually made of cotton fibers. There are numerous attempts to improve the durability of such documents of value, for example by coating the printed banknotes, by adding reinforcing fibers or by using plastic substrates or polymer substrates. Paint finishes have the disadvantage that, although the pollution is reduced, the mechanical properties are hardly improved. Although reinforcing fibers have an advantageous effect on the mechanical resistance, the degree of contamination is rather greater due to the higher porosity of the paper, so that additional coatings must be applied. An overview of plastic banknotes can be found eg in the article EL Prime, DH Solomon: "Australia's Plastic Banknotes: an effective weapon against counterfeiting", Angewandte Chemie, 2010, Volume 122, pages 2-13 , Polymer substrates used in plastic banknotes have the disadvantage, among other things, that paper watermarking is not readily possible compared to paper substrates. Although it is possible to produce a watermark-like appearance by printing technology. For the viewer, however, big differences to a real watermark are recognizable. The document WO 2004/028825 discloses a method of making a multi-ply value document substrate having at least one paper strip embedded between at least one watermark and comprising: a) providing a first film web and a second film web; b) embedding the paper strip, which is watermarked, between the first film web and the second film web; c) the trimming of the composite obtained in step b).

The invention has for its object to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art. In particular, the counterfeit protection of polymer substrates used in plastic banknotes should be increased.

This object is achieved by the feature combinations defined in the independent claims. Further developments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.

US 2009/0291245 A1 .Detailed description of the invention Banknotes on the basis of film composites or composites made of paper with externally applied film layers are known in the prior art, see, for example, US Pat WO 2004/028825 A2 and the US 2009/0291245 A1 ,

According to a comparative example of the present invention, a watermarked paper strip is embedded between two film webs.

According to the present invention, individual paper patches, each provided with at least one watermark, are embedded between two film webs.

In general, the step of embedding the paper strips or the paper patches can in particular be carried out directly after an extrusion process, by which the film webs are provided.

Alternatively, the step of embedding may take place in an operation subsequent to the extrusion process, for example in a laminating step. For this example, polyurethane adhesives or acrylate adhesives are suitable. The polyurethane adhesives may be one-component or two-component. The production of a multilayer film, for example by coextrusion through two or more slot dies, is known in the specialist literature. The production of a multilayer film directly without lamination is eg in the WO 97/46367 A1 described.

The paper strips or paper patches to be embedded can be embedded according to a further alternative via an inline thermal lamination. For this purpose, e.g. Polyurethane adhesives or acrylate adhesives. The polyurethane adhesives may be one-component or two-component.

The paper strip may in particular be a wide strip, but also a (narrow) paper thread.

Depending on the production of the paper, the watermark used according to the invention can be a two-level watermark with a strong light-dark effect or a multi-level watermark with smooth transitions between light and dark and detailed representation of a motif. The term "multi-level" is to be understood in contrast to two-stage light-dark watermark and includes all watermarks with more than two brightness levels and includes in particular watermarks with continuous light-dark transitions. For the production of multi-level watermarks, a three-dimensional relief is introduced into a dewatering screen of a paper machine, so that the paper thickness of the finished paper is varied or modulated according to the relief and soft, gradual transitions between brighter and darker areas can be detected in transmitted light. This is for example from the WO 2008/071325 A1 a drainage screen for the production of paper with multi-level Watermarks known. The dewatering screen has a carrier screen, which has a multi-level relief in the form of the watermark to be produced in a partial area, the multi-level relief being formed by an injection-molded, perforated watermark insert. The paper substrate produced with such a dewatering screen may be very thin in the area of the multi-level watermark, so that the paper substrate in this area is advantageously stabilized by means of the film web used in the present invention.

It is preferred that at least one film web, in particular both film webs, is or are transparent. The film web is based, for example, on polyesters, polyolefins (for example polyethylene or polypropylene, in particular biaxially oriented polypropylene BOPP), polyamides or polycarbonates. Polyester films, in particular polyethylene terephthalate films (PET films) are preferably used. As a film web beyond a laminate of several plastics can be used, for example, in the above-mentioned article Angewandte Chemie, 2010, Volume 122, pages 2-13 , described LLDPE / PP / LLDPE film (LLDPE = linear low density polyethylene, PP = polypropylene).

  • mittels Laserstrahlung erhältliche Sicherheitsmerkmale, wie etwa eine Papier-Schwärzung (z.B. in Form von Zeichen), eine Verfärbung Laser-sensitiver Farbstoffe, mittels Laser-Ablation behandelte Druckfarbe, mittels Laserschneiden erzeugte Sicherheitsmerkmale wie z.B. Aussparungen bzw. Fenster, insbesondere in Form eines Musters; die Erzeugung der Sicherheitsmerkmale kann gegebenenfalls in einem späten Stadium bei der Herstellung des Wertdokuments erfolgen;
  • mittels Verprägung, insbesondere mittels Stichtiefdruckverfahren erhältliche Präge-Merkmale;
Furthermore, each of the watermarks having paper strips or paper patches may be combined with other security features, eg
  • security features obtainable by means of laser radiation, such as paper blackening (eg in the form of characters), discoloration of laser-sensitive dyes, laser-ablated printing ink, security features produced by means of laser cutting, such as eg recesses or windows, in particular in the form of a pattern; the generation of the security features may, if appropriate, take place at a later stage in the production of the value document;
  • by means of embossing, in particular by means of intaglio printing available embossing features;
  • Laser-treated, ink-printed areas; the laser-treated ink is ablated so that printed areas are available in the form of a pattern; can be used as printing ink, for example, based on effect pigments colors.

The disadvantage of pure polymer substrates is, inter alia, the poor verprägbarkeit in intaglio printing. On the other hand, the value-document substrates having paper according to the invention can be embossed excellently in the later intaglio printing process, ie the paper areas have a higher tactility than the pure film areas. This is related to the compressibility and deformability of the fiber composite. In this way, a value document, such as a banknote, on the basis of the substrate according to the invention can be embossed over the entire area such that the embossing has a tactility only in the paper areas. In particular, the tactility may be in perfect registration (ie, in register registration) with the paper strip or paper patch.

Superposition.It is further preferred that at least one of the film webs used in the present invention, in particular both film webs, is additionally provided with security elements such as diffraction structures, security printing, liquid crystal layers, thin-film structures, fluorescent materials, magnetic, conductive and / or metallic layers. become. According to an advantageous variant, the film web (in particular both film webs) is provided with such a security element in the region of the watermark. By means of the exact, geometric arrangement of the watermark motif as the first motif and the security element motif of the film web (hereinafter also referred to as "foil element motif") as the second motif, a higher third motif can be generated for the viewer. It is conceivable, e.g. an adjacent or adjacent arrangement of the watermark motif and the foil element motif in the form of a "juxtaposition" of both motifs. Furthermore, the arrangement of the watermark motif and the foil element motif in spatial superimposition or superposition would be conceivable.

  • oberhalb einer Aussparung in einer ersten Folie wird ein Papier-Patch appliziert; oberhalb des Papier-Patches wird vollflächig eine zweite Folie (die keine Aussparung aufweist) aufgebracht;
Furthermore, it is possible for one and / or both foils, between which a paper patch is embedded, to have a recess available, for example, by means of punching or by laser cutting. The recess may be the same as or different from the shape of the paper patch. However, it is preferred that the recess has a smaller areal dimension than that of the paper patch. In particular, the following variants are conceivable:
  • above a recess in a first film, a paper patch is applied; above the paper patch, a second film (which has no recess) is applied over the entire area;
  • above a recess in a first film, a paper patch is applied; above the paper patch, a second film, which has a recess just like the first film, is applied over the whole area; the two recesses can in particular be congruent or (slightly) shifted from one another, ie overlapping.

  1. a) das Bereitstellen einer ersten Folienbahn, einer zweiten Folienbahn und einer dritten Folienbahn;
  2. b) das Einbetten von Papierstreifen oder Papier-Flicken, die jeweils mit Wasserzeichen versehen sind, zwischen die erste Folienbahn und die zweite Folienbahn einerseits und zwischen die zweite Folienbahn und die dritte Folienbahn andererseits;
The manufacturing method according to the comparative example of the invention and the invention may further be adapted to a method for producing a multi-layered value document substrate each having watermarked paper strips or paper patches embedded in the form of two intermediate layers between three films
  1. a) providing a first film web, a second film web and a third film web;
  2. b) the embedding of paper strips or paper patches, each provided with watermarks, between the first film web and the second film web on the one hand and between the second film web and the third film web on the other hand;
  3. c) the trimming of the composite obtained in step b).

In the value document substrate having three film layers obtained in this way, the paper strips or paper patches (in the form of two intermediate layers) embedded can be introduced in an overlapping manner in particular. In this way, when viewed in transmitted light, a different, different from the single watermark, new optical effect.
