Claims (12)

  1. Device for signalling the trip of an electrical protection unit, such as a circuit breaker, housed in an insulating casing enclosing a pair of contacts constituted by a fixed (5) and a mobile (4) contact, said mobile contact being actuatable either manually by a handle (6) mechanically connected to a support device (3) of the mobile contact, said handle being pivotably mounted between a closed position and an open position of the contacts, or automatically by means of a trip mechanism having a magnetic trip (13) able to be activated in the event of the occurrence of a short-circuit fault and a thermal trip (18) able to be activated in the event of the occurrence of an overload fault, said mobile contact support (3) being mounted rotatably between an open position of the contacts and a closed position of the contacts and being connected to the handle (6) by a transmission means so as to form a breakable mechanical connection between the support and the handle, the activation of one of the trips inducing the rupture of the mechanical connection, inducing the separation of the contacts, and comprising first signalling means S or means for signalling any fault type, said means being intended to be activated to signal the tripped state of the unit whatever the fault type,
    characterized in that said device has second signalling means T able to be activated only in the event of the appearance of a short-circuit fault, said first signalling means S and second signalling means T cooperating with an opening (7) belonging to the casing (1) of the unit such that, in the event of the activation of the first S and second T signalling means, the latter can be viewed simultaneously through the opening in the casing so as to signal the occurrence of a short-circuit fault to the user, whereas in the event of the activation of the first signalling means S alone, these first signalling means S are visible through the opening in the casing so as to signal the occurrence of an overload fault to the user.
  2. Signalling device according to Claim 1, characterized in that the second signalling means T comprise a lever (34) or leg mounted rotatably relative to the casing (1) of the unit, said lever having a first end cooperating with the striker (28) of the magnetic trip and a second end cooperating with an indicator (33).
  3. Signalling device according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the first signalling means S and the second signalling means T have, respectively, a first indicator (32) and a second indicator (33), said indicators being visible through an opening (7) in the casing (1) of the unit, the appearance of the two indicators through the opening signalling a fault of the magnetic type, whereas the appearance of a single indicator signals an overload fault.
  4. Signalling device according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the first S and second T signalling means are carried by a single and the same indicator referred to as a third indicator (37), said third indicator being able to assume three positions, respectively a first position corresponding to a closed position of the unit, a second position corresponding to an opening of the contacts following an overload fault, and a third position corresponding to an opening in the event of a short circuit.
  5. Signalling device according to Claim 4, characterized in that said device has means for holding the third indicator (37) in the intermediate position, or second position, allowing the movement of the indicator into the third position in the event of a magnetic trip, by utilizing the magnetic forces generated by the striker (28) of the magnetic trip.
  6. Signalling device according to Claim 4 or 5, characterized in that the course of travel given to the third indicator (37) by the rotary lever (34) in the event of a trip of the magnetic type is greater than the course of travel given by the trip mechanism to said indicator in the event of an overload fault.
  7. Signalling device according to any one of Claims 4 to 6, characterized in that the magnetic forces exerted by the rotary lever (34) will be sufficient to allow the third indicator (37) to pass the stops or humps (38) provided on the indicator and cooperating with the edges delimiting the opening (7) of the casing (1) of the unit, these stops and humps being intended to block said indicator in the thermal fault position.
  8. Signalling device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that said device has means for re-initializing the indicator(s) (32, 33, 37) in the fault-free position of the unit, as the unit is closed.
  9. Electrical protection unit having a signalling device according to any one of the preceding claims.
  10. Electrical protection unit having a mobile set of equipment comprising the aforementioned support device (3) of the mobile contact mounted rotatably between the two aforementioned positions and connected to the handle (6) by a transmission means (10) so as to form a breakable mechanical connection between the device (3) and the handle (6), characterized in that said unit has a signalling device D according to any one of Claims 1 to 8, and in that the aforementioned mobile set of equipment has a different profile depending on the speed of opening of the contacts (4, 5), this speed being different depending on whether the opening is manual or is caused by an electrical fault, this profile being such that said set of equipment actuates the aforementioned first signalling means S only in the event of an automatic opening of the contacts (4, 5) following a fault.
  11. Electrical protection unit according to Claim 10, characterized in that the aforementioned mobile set of equipment comprises a transmission link (10) articulated at one of the ends thereof to the handle (6), and connected in an articulated manner at the other end thereof to a hook (19), said hook (19) being articulated to the support device (3) of the mobile contact (4), cooperating with the trip means (16) and having a means (21) for actuating the signalling means S in the event of an opening of the contacts (4, 5) following a fault.
  12. Electrical protection unit according to any one of Claims 9 to 11, characterized in that said unit is a circuit breaker.
