Vorteilhafterweise ist der Halteflansch als ein am Starter und/oder am Verbrennungsmotor in mindestens zwei Positionen verdreht anordenbarer Drehflansch ausgebildet. Dies hat den Vorteil, dass die konkrete Einbaulage des Starters an einem Verbrennungsmotor und in einem dabei zur Verfügung stehenden Bauraum, wie beispielsweise in dem Motorraum eines Kraftfahrzeugs, im Vorfeld nicht aufwendig geklärt und entsprechend umgesetzt werden muss. Zweckmäßigerweise weist der Halteflansch eine im Wesentlichen kreisrunde Ringform auf. Dies bietet die einfache Möglichkeit, auf engem Raum eine Verdrehung des Starters um seine axiale Orientierung zu realisieren. Dabei ist der Halteflansch und/oder der Befestigungsflansch des Starters vorteilhafterweise so ausgebildet, dass der Starter schrittweise um die Drehachse der Antriebswelle verdreht und in mehreren, bestimmten Positionen befestigt werden kann. Dadurch wird die Entwicklung eines passenden Befestigungsflansches für einen Verbrennungsmotor erleichtert, da durch eine zweiteilige Lösung in Form des Starters mit einem daran angeordneten verdrehbaren, separaten Halteflansch, beziehungsweise Isolierteil, welcher einen Freiheitsgrad bezüglich der Ausrichtung des Starters an dem Verbrennungsmotor ermöglicht, die Anbauposition des Starters in gewissen Grenzen an die örtlichen Gegebenheiten, also an den Bauraum, angepasst werden kann. Vorteilhafterweise ist mindestens eine Öffnung beziehungsweise Schraubenöffnung loch- oder langlochförmig ausgebildet. Durch die Anordnung mehrerer lochförmiger, also kreisförmiger, Schraubenöffnungen beziehungsweise Bohrungen in dem Halteflansch ist eine schrittweise Verdrehung des Starters und/oder des Verbrennungsmotors möglich. Mittels einer Langlochausführung ist ein stufenloses Verdrehen des Starters um seine axiale Orientierung auf einfache Art und Weise realisiert. Dabei korrespondieren die jeweiligen Schraubenöffnungen natürlich mit entsprechenden Durchführungs- und/oder Gewindeöffnungen an dem Befestigungsflansch und/oder dem Gehäuse des Verbrennungsmotors. Das Isolierelement kann auch vorteilhafterweise als Isolier-Zwischenring ausgebildet sein, dessen Achse deckungsgleich mit der Achse des als Halteflansch ausgebildeten, kreisringförmigen Isolierteils ist.
