  2. Transfer device according to Claim 1 characterised in that each rod (2) is a tubular rod, the part of the rod extending between the free end (2C) and the portion with offset bends (3A, 3B) being fitted so as to be free to rotate, the rest of the rod (2) having controlled rotation.
  3. Transfer device according to one of Claims 1 and 2 characterised in that each part of the rods (2) is fitted to a rod holder (4) including a controlled contra-rotating drive mechanism for the rods (2), bringing the said rods (2) closer together or further apart.
  4. Transfer device according to Claim 3 characterised in that the rod holder (4) comprises a carriage preferably fitted to a turntable (5) in order to transfer the knitted tubular articles (1) from position to position.
  5. Transfer device according to one of Claims 1 to 4 characterised in that the rods in a pair of rods respectively assume the general shape of a crank.
  6. Installation for transferring knitted tubes (1) comprising articles fitting the feet, such as tights, knee-length socks and short socks, each tube (1) presenting a point (1A) at one end and a band (1B) or belt at the other end between a storage position (P) and at least one forming block (F1) at a shaping or sewing or ironing position (F), characterised in that it comprises at least one pair, preferably more than one, of transfer devices with rods (2) conforming with one of Claims 1 to 4, each transfer device being movable using an appropriate device such as a turntable (5) so as to interact, during movement, with several positions (O, P1, F, E), at least one part (P, P1) of these positions being fitted with a carriage or carriages (6) fitted with friction or pinching units (7) likely to come into contact with the tubes (1) slipped onto the rods (2) in order axially to position at least the belt (1B) of the said tube (1) on the said rods (2) and/or units (8) to rotate a portion of the rods (2) in order to obtain radial orientation of the knitted tubes (1) on the rods (2).

Transfer installation according to Claim 6 characterised in that each transfer device with rods (2) is fitted to a turntable (5) which is common to the said devices, the turntable (5) bringing, during a complete rotation, each transfer device past at least four positions respectively comprising a tube (1) storage position (P), a tube (1) positioning position (P1), a tube (1) shaping, sewing or ironing position (F) and a tube (1) evacuation position (E).
