Abstract

The lock mechanism comprises a housing (3) containing a lengthwise sliding mechanism (4a) with a bolt holder (4), an actuator (5), and two catches (7,8) fitted to opposite ends of the housing, so it can be engaged with an aperture in the door or window. At least the first (7) of the catches has a section which can retract elastically into the housing against the effort of a spring (29). This allows it to pass through the door or window aperture and engage with its edge (12) to hold the housing in place. The retracting section has a sloping surface (23) which slides against the edge of the opening when the housing is pressed against it, and a shoulder which engages with the edge of the opening once the housing is in the correct position.
