Definitions
- the present invention relates to a jet printer ink provided with a movable carriage arranged so as to ability to receive interchangeable print head with at least one other type of print head, the printer comprising a frame and a station maintenance with at least two types of caps intended to be applied to the print head of the type for which they are intended by means of a selection and ordering.
- inkjet printers it is to protect the ink ejection nozzles from the print head, when it is in the position rest for an extended time between periods in order to avoid drying of the ink leading to blockage of the nozzles.
- a nozzle is applied against the nozzle plate.
- hood that maintains a certain humidity level.
- the device which is the subject of the present invention applies to a printer with a printhead interchangeable plug-in in the mobile carriage printing.
- Different types of heads can be plugged into the carriage, for example a black ink head or a head with multicolored ink.
- caps are provided respective for each type of plug-in head.
- US Patent 5,155,497 describes a station maintenance for a printer of this type.
- This station includes a support rotating 180 ° around an axis parallel to the direction of travel of the carriage and on which are mounted in opposite positions two caps via two movable slides longitudinally along this direction of moving the moving carriage. After detection of the type of print head mounted on the carriage, the support turning rotates the slide and the cap corresponding to the head, the carriage drives then the slide longitudinally to apply the cap against the nozzle plate.
- This maintenance station includes a large number of parts and is of complicated construction.
- the maintenance station includes a support for caps on which the caps are arranged side by side coast in a direction perpendicular to the direction movement of the carriage, this support being arranged way to perform under the action of the selection mechanism and control, on the one hand, a first movement of translation relative to the frame in a direction parallel to said perpendicular direction to put one of the caps next to the print head plugged into the carriage and, secondly, a second translational movement relative to the frame according to a second direction perpendicular to said direction perpendicular making such an angle with the direction of movement of the carriage as the selected cap in look of the head plugged into the carriage is applied against this head inserted during said second movement of translation.
- the mechanism of selection and control includes a selection lever mounted on the carriage and cooperating with the head plugged into the carriage to occupy separate positions depending on the type of printhead inserted, this selection lever being arranged so as to cooperate with a part secured to the support so that the latter is moved following the first movement of translation to operate the cap selection at apply.
- the selection command of the cap to be applied is performed reliably and simple.
- the support is connected to the frame via two pairs of flat springs perpendicular to each other and placed in series, a first of the two pairs of flat springs allowing the first translational movement and the second pair controlling the second translational movement.
- This arrangement ensures reliable operation while by having a very small number of components.
- Figure 1 is a schematic perspective view of a part of the printer showing in particular the maintenance station.
- Figures 2a and 2b are front views showing the truck a) outside the maintenance station and b) parked in the maintenance station.
- Figures 3a, 3b and 3c are plan views of the carriage with a first printhead, a) outside of the maintenance station, b) when entering the station maintenance during cap selection, and c) to shutdown in the maintenance station.
- Figures 4a, 4b and 4c are also views in plan of the carriage with a second print head in three different positions in relation to the maintenance.
- Figures 5a, 5b and 5c are side views showing the carriage in different positions relative to at the maintenance station, in 5a the trolley is in outside of the latter, in 5b the carriage is inside of the station and fitted with the first print head, and in 5c it is inside the station but with the second print head.
- the embodiment illustrated in Figures 1 to 5 includes a carriage 1 carrying a print head 2 of a first type plugged into this carriage and which can be exchanged by at least one print head 3 from another type.
- the carriage 1 is slidably mounted on a shaft 5 fixed on the printer frame 7 thanks to a piece of attachment 8 and moves back and forth through a document to print it.
- the printer has a maintenance station 6 arranged laterally outside the printing area and which is intended to prevent ink drying in the print head nozzles and clogging of these nozzles.
- the maintenance station 6 includes two caps for this purpose. 10 and 11 arranged side by side on a cap holder 12 itself mounted on a movable support 14 of complex structure.
- the two caps 10 and 11 are arranged side by side in a direction perpendicular to the direction 15 (fig. 2a) of movement of the carriage 1 and the movable support 14 is arranged so as to perform a first translational movement relative to the frame 7 to have one or the other of the caps 10.11 opposite of the print head 2 or 3 plugged into the carriage.
- This movable support 14 comprises a support plate 16 which carries the cap holder 12 and which is connected to a intermediate plate 18 by a pair of flat springs 17 substantially parallel to direction 15.
- the plate intermediate 18 is connected by a second pair of springs plates 19 perpendicular to the first pair at a plate 20 secured to the frame 7 of the printer.
- the maintenance station is provided with a selection mechanism and control 25, comprising a feeler lever 26 pivotally mounted at 27 on the carriage 1.
- This lever 26 has a feeler element 28 cooperating with the print head 2 or 3 plugged in.
- feeler lever 26 occupies an angular position different depending on the plug-in print head. So the print head 3 of FIG. 4a has a width larger than the print head 2 of FIG. 2a and the lever is therefore pivoted by an angle of about 25 ° on the cart.
- the mechanism 25 further comprises a fixed ramp 30 on the support plate 16 and capable of cooperating with a finger 29 provided at the end of the feeler lever 26.
- a finger 29 provided at the end of the feeler lever 26.
- this finger 29 comes into contact with the ramp 30 to move the support plate 16 to the left at the Figure 3b.
- finger 29 passes beside the ramp 30 when the wider print head 3 is plugged in on the carriage 1 ( Figures 4a to 4c).
- the mechanism 25 also has a pusher 33 in tooth 34 attached to the carriage 1 and which is intended to cooperate with a boss 35 in the form of an integral cam of the support plate 16.
- This boss 35 has two sliding sides 36 and 37 separated by a point on which the tooth 34 is supported when the carriage 1 is moved to maintenance station 6. So tooth 34 is facing the flank 37, when the finger 29 passes to side of the ramp 30 (fig. 4b), and cooperates with this sidewall 37 to push the support plate 16 to the right at the Figure 4c, to arrange the cap 10 opposite the print head 3.
- tooth 34 comes into contact with the sidewall 36 and moves the support plate 16 towards the left in Figure 3c to place the cap 11 opposite of the print head 2.
- the complex support 14 makes it possible to accomplish the moving the caps for selection and their application against the print head by a construction very simple and requiring no training particular, if not the movement of the carriage.
- feeler lever 26 is brought to a predetermined angular position to cooperate or not with the ramp 30 on the support plate 16 so as to obtain the selection of the cap which is placed opposite the print head.
- the lateral translation of the support plate is then performed by sliding tooth 34 along a of the two sides of the boss 35. After this lateral translation, the carriage still causes the cap to be applied selected against the print head and then be immobilized in the maintenance station with the nozzles covered by the appropriate cap.
- printing the support plate 16 returns under the elastic effect flat springs 17 and 19 in their initial position illustrated in Figures 2a, 3a, 4a and 5a.
- feeler lever 26 could be replaced by a projecting part of the printhead acting directly on the ramp 30.
- the movement of the support plate caps could also be done by action direct on cam-shaped boss 35 without preselection by the ramp and with or without the presence of a feeler lever 26.
- the two pairs of flat springs 17 and 19 could be replaced by any other mechanism allowing lateral and application movements of the caps, for example by means of levers requested by springs to a rest position.
- the support plate 16 would carry a cap central and two side caps for example.
- the direction and magnitude of the perpendicular translational movement will then be defined by the type of print head cares.
- One or more caps could be connected by flexible tube to a suction pump allowing priming the print head or fitted with a ink absorbing pad.
- the maintenance station may also be equipped with one or more mud flaps intended wipe the front of the print heads. These flaps could be retractable or not on the mobile support or on the frame.
