Definitions

  • the invention relates to a plier can opener according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • the rotary handle is mounted in one arm and it either carries the feed wheel and a gear which, when the pliers are closed, comes into engagement with a gear mounted in the other arm, which is connected to the knife designed as a cutting wheel, or it carries this Cutting wheel and a gearwheel which, when the pliers are closed, come into engagement with a gearwheel mounted in the other arm and connected to the feed wheel.
  • Plier can openers of this type are relatively expensive to produce, since the attachment and storage of the individual parts on or in the arms requires a relatively large outlay. Damage to the chrome-plated arms, which are usually made of sheet metal, cannot be ruled out during assembly.
  • the pivotable arms are formed from cast parts.
  • the cutting wheel which is not driven, is held in a multi-part cutting wheel block, which in turn is inserted and screwed into a cubic recess in the arm. Due to the three-sided wall covering, a complex casting or alternatively a complicated sheet metal part is required for the arm. In addition, a considerable manufacturing effort is required.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a plier can opener of the generic type which is distinguished by a simple structure, inexpensive manufacturing process and in particular by a significantly simplified assembly of its components.
  • the rotatable components of the can opener are combined into units which are attached to the arms of the can opener on the arms, only simple sheet metal stampings are required.
  • the twist grip with the parts connected to it namely the cutting wheel and a gear or the feed wheel and a gear in or on an element carrier, which is attached to one of the arms, while the counter element, so in the first case the feed wheel with a gear and in the second case the cutting wheel with a gear the other arm is attached.
  • This counter element is preferably also attached to an element carrier which is attached to the other arm.
  • a spacer is usually attached to the arm carrying the feed wheel, which, when the can opener is in use, lies against the peripheral wall of the can and ensures the correct inclination of the can to the cutting wheel.
  • This spacer can then also be part of the relevant element carrier carrying the feed wheel.
  • the rotary handle together with the feed wheel and the knife, which is preferably in the form of a cutting wheel, on an element carrier which is attached to one of the arms.
  • the other arm carries only one support element for the edge of the can, which is opposite the feed wheel. If this other arm is a sheet metal part as usual, you can the support element and the spacer are formed by tabs bent up from the plane of the sheet metal part.
  • Each arm receiving an element carrier is preferably formed by a sheet metal part which has a cutout, while the element carrier is provided with an incision, the width of which corresponds to the thickness of the sheet metal part and the core of which corresponds to the width of the cutout.
  • the element carrier is simply inserted into the cutout and held there non-positively.
  • the cutouts are preferably provided on the mutually facing inner edges of the arms, so that the element carriers cannot be pressed out of the cutouts when the pliers are closed.
  • the cutting wheel is generally arranged obliquely to the level of the can lid.
  • this can be achieved in a simple manner in that the incision in the element carrier, which receives the cutting wheel, runs correspondingly obliquely to its axis of rotation.
  • a pliers can opener which has two arms 1 and 2 provided with handles, which are pivotally connected to each other by a pivot 3.
  • the first arm 1 carries a rotary handle 4 with a cutting wheel 5 and a gear wheel 6.
  • the second arm 2 carries a feed wheel 7 and a gear wheel 8 connected to it, as well as a spacer 9.
  • the can opener works in the usual way as follows:
  • the cutting wheel 5 comes behind the peripheral bead on the lid of the can to be opened and penetrates into the lid, while the feed wheel 7 is pressed onto the peripheral bead from below and the gears 6 and 8 come into engagement with one another.
  • the feed wheel 7 is driven via the gears 6, 8 and it in turn rotates the can.
  • the spacer 9 serves to avoid grinding of the feed wheel 7 on the outer circumference of the can and to ensure the correct position of the cutting wheel in relation to the peripheral bead.
  • the rotary handle 4 has a shaft 10 which extends through an element carrier 11 and carries the cutting wheel 5 and the gear 6 at its free end.
  • the arm 1 is provided with a cutout 12 (FIG. 4) and the element carrier 11 on its peripheral surface with an incision 13 (FIG. 5).
  • the width of the incision 13 corresponds to the thickness of the arm 1 formed by a sheet metal part and its core to the width of the cutout 12.
  • the element carrier 11 is inserted with its incision 13 into the cutout 12 and held non-positively.
  • the cut 12 runs, as can be seen, at an angle to the axis of rotation of the shaft 10, as a result of which the cutting wheel 5, after the element carrier 11 has been inserted, comes into the desired inclined position.
  • the gear wheel 8 is firmly seated on the shaft 14 of the feed wheel 7.
  • the axis 14 has a section 15 of larger diameter at its end facing away from the feed wheel 7.
  • the second arm 2 is provided with a slot 16 (FIG. 3) into which the shaft 14 is inserted in a force-locking manner.
  • a second exemplary embodiment of the second arm 2 and the unit comprising the feed wheel 7 and the gear wheel 8 are shown.
  • the shaft 14 of this unit is mounted in a plastic part 17, which has a slot 18 which continues in a groove 19 on both sides of the bearing parts for the shaft 14.
  • the arm 2 has a cutout 20 into which the plastic part 17 is inserted and in which it is held in a form-fitting manner.
  • the spacer 9 is formed on the plastic part 17 and, in the previous example, is formed by a tab bent out of the plane of the arm 2.
  • the cutting wheel 5 can also be arranged on the shaft 14 and the feed wheel 7 on the shaft 10.
  • the rotatable elements required for opening the can in particular the cutting wheel and the feed wheel and, if appropriate, gears provided for transmitting the rotary movement of the rotary handle are combined into units which are simply plugged onto the arms of the can opener. This significantly simplifies the manufacture and assembly of the can opener.
