Method for manufacturing lace ribbons with good cross stiffness, employing a wide wefting of each lace ribbon which is capable of being carried out over the entire useful width of the loom used, this being achieved at its normal operating speed. The device employed for this purpose, which can be adapted to a multi-bar loom in order to replace the conventional link chain, comprises means (6, 8, 7) for converting the rotational movement of a drive shaft (1) of the loom into a horizontal to-and-fro movement actuating the weft bars (24) of the loom and means (12, 18, 20) for adjusting the amplitude of the said horizontal to-and-fro movement.
