Description

The present invention relates to a frame forming a support for a tent fabric of a light shelter which is stretched in a substantially pyramidal shape.

Most of the stretched textile structures which constitute “tent fabrics” are generally bordered, along their lower perimeter by which they are connected to hanging elements of the canvas, by cables called “ropes” which take up the stresses due to the tension of the fabric, and which result either from the formatting tension thereof or from the effects of snow and wind on the canvas. The tensile loads are transferred on the one hand to a central mast resting on the ground and on the other hand to a set of materials in compression and shrouds in traction.

Such a structure has several drawbacks. Firstly, the presence of the central mast resting on the ground is very often a cause of discomfort for circulation inside the shelter and it limits the possibilities of use. In addition, the “roping” cables take, under the effect of the tension of the fabric, a curved shape between two attachment points, which makes it very difficult to tightly connect two or more structures to each other.

No. 3,810,481 has proposed a support frame for tent fabric, the central pole of which does not bear on the ground, but is held at its base in height, by rafters 30 and a guy system 44 , 47 located below these.

However, such a guying system does not make it possible to obtain a very marked and very pointed curvilinear pyramidal shape.

The present invention seeks to remedy these drawbacks by providing a frame of particularly simple design and making it possible to eliminate the descent of the central mast to the ground, while allowing tight connections of the frames in difficulties.

To this end, this frame forming a support for a substantially pyramidal tent canvas of a light shelter which is stretched between the top of a vertical central pole, and a polygonal base, said frame comprising a rigid frame, in the shape of a first regular polygon, alongside which the canvas is hung, the mast being held by inclined rigid arms whose ends are coupled, in common, to the mast, is characterized in that the lower end of the central mast is located at a level higher than the horizontal plane of the polygonal frame, the lower end of the mast is rigidly coupled to the upper part of said inclined rigid arms, the lower parts of which are coupled to the sides of the polygonal frame, at connection points spaced from the tops of the polygonal frame, the connecting points of two neighboring inclined arms with two adjacent sides of the frame being symmetrical with respect to the angle bisector formed by these two sides, and crosspieces extend respectively across the angles of the frame, between attachment points on the sides of the frame which are symmetrical with respect to the bisector of each angle, thus forming a second polygon inscribed in the first with number of sides double that of the first polygon, the upper part of the mast being linked to the fabric which is stretched between this upper part and the first polygon.

Because the frame according to the invention comprises at its base a frame in the shape of a regular polygon (triangular, square, hexagonal, etc.), it is possible to juxtapose several frames, so as to increase the total area covered, the polygonal frames of two neighboring reinforcements then being joined by two of their adjacent sides held tight against one another by any appropriate means.

The polygonal frame of the frame can rest on the ground by means of posts, low walls etc ... or even it can simply cover a work. In all cases there is no transfer of internal forces to the support structure and the only forces to which this support structure of the armature is subjected, are limited to the weight of this armature and to the load due the effects of snow or wind.

An embodiment of the present invention will be described below, by way of non-limiting example, with reference to the appended drawing in which:
  • Figure 1 is a perspective view of a light shelter comprising a tent canvas stretched over a frame according to the invention.
  • Figure 2 is an exploded perspective view of the frame according to the invention.
  • Figure 3 is a perspective view, on a larger scale, illustrating a method of connecting the inclined rigid arms with the lower end of the central vertical mast.

The light shelter which is shown in Figure 1, comprises a tent fabric 1 of pyramidal shape which is stretched over a frame 2 according to the invention. This frame 2 essentially comprises a horizontal lower frame 3, in the form of a regular polygon, of a square in the particular case illustrated, a central vertical mast 4, on the upper end of which bears the top of the pyramid tent fabric 1 , inclined rigid arms 5 ensuring the connection between the lower end of the central mast 4 and the sides of the frame 3, and cross members 6 extending in the corners of the frame 3.

As can be better seen in Figures 2 and 3, the central vertical mast 4 consists of two tubes 7 and 8 fitted one inside the other and forming a telescopic assembly, namely an upper tube 7 of small diameter engaged in a lower tube 8 of larger diameter, and it is provided with a device making it possible to vary the total height of the telescopic mast consisting of the two tubes 7, 8 and consequently the tension of the fabric 1. The lower tube 8 of the mast 4 is closed, at its lower end, by a transverse circular flange 9 which is crossed by a screw 11 forming part of a device for adjusting the tension of the fabric. This screw 11 is screwed into the lower bottom 12, forming a nut, of the upper tube 7, or else into a suitable nut integral with this tube and placed higher. The circular flange 9 which forms the bottom of the lower tube 8, has a diameter greater than that of this tube and it carries, on its cylindrical lateral surface 9a, end pieces 13 distributed around the vertical axis of the mast and in number equal to that of the arms 5. The axis of each of the end pieces 13 is inclined downward so as to coincide with that of the rigid connecting arms 5 once these have been mounted. Each of the arms 5 is constituted by a section of tube whose internal diameter corresponds to the external diameter of a nozzle 13, so as to be able to be fitted thereon. Each arm 5 is also fitted, by its lower end part, onto a cylindrical end piece 14, of external diameter equal to the internal diameter of the tubular arm 5 and which is fixed to one side 15 of the frame, each end piece 14 being inclined, with respect to at side 15, so that its axis coincides with that of the rigid link arm 5 once it is mounted. Each side 15 of the frame 3 is advantageously constituted by a hollow section, for example having a square cross section, and in this case each end piece 14 is fixed, for example by welding, to the internal vertical face 15a of the section 15.

As can best be seen in FIGS. 1 and 2 the end pieces 14 fixed to two adjacent sides 15, that is to say perpendicular to the frame 3, are symmetrical with respect to the bisector of the angle formed by these two sides , in other words the two rigid link arms 5, connected to these two end pieces 14, are themselves symmetrical to one another with respect to a vertical plane containing the bisector of the angle formed by the two adjacent sides 15 . Therefore the frame comprises a number of inclined arms 5 double that of the sides 15 of the frame 3, in other words, in the particular case where the frame 3 is square, it comprises four pairs of arms 5 associated respectively with the four angles of the frame 3.

These attachment points are located in the immediate vicinity of the end pieces 14, as can best be seen in FIG. 4. Each attachment point can be constituted, for example, by a vertical screw 16 fixed, for example by welding, on the upper horizontal face 15b of the profile 15 constituting the side of the frame 3, this screw being intended to extend through a hole 17 provided in the end part of the cross-member 6. A nut 18 which is screwed onto the screw 16, ensures then the locking of the cross-member 6 on the upper face 15b on the side 15.

We see, from the above description, that the resumption of the load of the central mast 4 is ensured, above the level of the frame 2, by the rigid connecting arms 5 which bear directly on the frame 3. By elsewhere the crosspieces 6 which extend between the adjacent sides 15, have the effect of canceling the thrusts exerted by the arms 5 on the sides 15 of the frame 3. The positions of the end pieces 14 on the sides 15 of the frame 3, c ' that is to say the points of application of the forces exerted by the arms 5, are determined so as to obtain equal maximum bending moments on the frame 3, as a result of the tension of the fabric 1, of an arm 5 to the other and an arm 5 at the corner of the frame. This arrangement makes it possible to reduce the importance of the sections 15 constituting the frame 3 and to obtain arrows compatible with the achievement of good sealing.

The frame 3 can simply rest on its own on an appropriate support structure, or alternatively by means of corner posts 19 as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. Each post 19 can have, at its upper end , a horizontal bracket 21, the two branches 21a and 21b of which have a square cross section smaller than the internal cross section of each profile 15, so as to be able to fit closely into these profiles 15.

The frame according to the invention lends itself particularly well to its juxtaposition, in a sealed manner, with another frame of the same type. It suffices in fact to attach the two base frames of the two frames and to assemble them, along two adjacent sides 15, by any suitable means.

As can be better seen in Figure 6, this assembly can be achieved by means of horizontal and transverse bolts 22 passing through holes drilled opposite in the two adjoining sides 15. The lower end parts of the two tent fabrics 1 are thus tightly packed against each other.

In the variant embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 7, the two adjacent sides 15 are held tight against one another by means of a stirrup 23 extending under the two sides 15, the two of which vertical wings, directed upwards, enclose the two sides 15 and which is locked by means of a screw 24.

2. Framework according to claim 1, characterized in that the lower tube (8) of the pole (4) is closed, at its lower end, by a transverse circular plate (9) which bears on its cylindrical lateral surface (9a) a plurality of connecting pieces (13) distributed about the vertical axis of the pole, and the axis of each of the connecting pieces (13) is inclined downwardly so as to merge with that of the rigid connecting arms (5) once the latter are mounted.
3. Framework according to claim 2, characterized in that each of the arms (5) is constituted by a section of tube of which the inner diameter corresponds to the outer diameter of a connecting piece (13), so as to be able to be fitted thereon, and it is furthermore fitted, by its lower end part, on a cylindrical connecting piece (14), of outer diameter equal to the inner diameter of the tubular arm (5) and which is fixed to one side (15) of the frame, each connecting piece (14) being inclined, with respect to side (15), so that its axis merges with that of the rigid connecting arm (5) once the latter is mounted.
4. Framework according to either one of claims 2 and 3, characterized in that the lower transverse circular plate (9) of the lower tube (8) of the pole (4) is traversed by a screw (11) forming part of a device for adjusting the tension of the canvas and this screw (11) is screwed in the lower bottom (12), forming nut, of the upper tube (7), or in an appropriate nut fast with this tube and placed higher.
5. Framework according to either one of claims 3 and 4, characterized in that each side (15) of the frame (3) is constituted by a hollow section, and each connecting piece (14) is fixed to the inner vertical face (15a) of the section (15).
6. Framework according to claim 5, characterized in that the connecting pieces (14), fixed to two adjacent sides (15) of the frame (3), are symmetrical with respect to the bisectrix of the angle formed by these two sides.
7. Framework according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that each point of hooking of a crosspiece (6) is constituted by a vertical screw (16) fixed on the upper horizontal face (15b) of the side of the frame (3), this screw being adapted to extend through a hole (17) provided in the end part of the crosspiece (6), and a nut (18), which is screwed on the screw (16), ensures blocking of the crosspiece (6) on the upper face (15b) of the side (15).
8. Framework according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that its frame (3) is assembled with the frame (3) of an adjacent framework, along two adjacent sides (15), by means of horizontal and transverse bolts (22) traversing holes pierced opposite in the two attached sides (15).
9. Framework according to any one of claims 1 to 7, characterized in that its frame (3) is assembled with the frame (3) of an adjacent framework, along two adjacent sides (15), by means of a stirrup element (23) extending beneath the two sides (15), of which the two vertical sides, directed upwardly, encompass the two sides (15) and which is blocked by means of a screw (24).
