Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for removing dirt particles from the plate cylinder of an offset printing machine, which extends over the entire length of the plate cylinder and engages it in the area between the ink transfer to the blanket cylinder and the dampening application.
- the plate cylinder In offset printing, the plate cylinder is always contaminated. These contaminants can be paper or cardboard fibers of the material to be printed, agglomerations or lumps originating from the printing ink, or air dust; they leave unprinted or color-free areas on the surface to be printed.
- the printing machine is stopped and the dirt particles are removed by hand, or a tool is pressed against the rotating plate cylinder while the printing machine is running, which removes the dirt particles. While stopping the printing machine leads to a decrease in the printing capacity and an increase in the reject percentage, since rejects are inevitable each time the printing machine is started, reaching into the running printing machine, which is forbidden in itself, is very dangerous for the operator and also causes, since it an undesirable partial removal of color is only possible from the color application side.
- the mechanical effort that makes it possible to convert the applicator roller into a cleaning tool is quite high; on the other hand, the cleaning success is by no means certain, since if the plate cylinder and applicator roller are not exactly parallel, removal of dirt particles over the entire cylinder length is no longer guaranteed.
- the relatively low pressure of the application roller on the plate cylinder also contributes to this, which can lead to the fact that the dirt particle is only squeezed flat and not removed.
- the invention is intended to provide a cleaning device which does not adhere to these deficiencies of the known devices, and which thus allows the plate cylinder to be cleaned safely and quickly and completely while the offset printing press is running, with a minimal proportion of rejects.
- this object is achieved according to the invention in that a plurality of pneumatic cylinders are arranged distributed over the entire length of the plate cylinder, the non-rotatable piston rods of which have a stripper made of elastic material at their free end, two adjacent strippers being offset from one another and laterally are arranged overlapping and the stroke of each piston rod is slightly longer than the distance between the front edge of the retracted wipers and the surface of the plate cylinder.
- the wipers form a closed front which covers the entire length of the plate cylinder and which can be brought against the surface thereof in sections while the offset printing machine is running. It is then sufficient if only a single dirt particle is present to extend the relevant section, but if there are several dirt particles distributed over the length of the plate cylinder, these can be removed by simultaneously extending several sections in one go.
- the offset and laterally overlapping arrangement of the wipers prevents the formation of a dead zone between adjacent wipers.
- the dimensioning of the stroke path ensures that the extended scraper is firmly pressed against the plate cylinder at all times, the elasticity of the scraper material in conjunction with the flexibility of the pneumatic drive ensuring that there is no damage the surface of the plate cylinder comes; this dimensioning of the stroke also compensates for any scraper wear that may occur.
- the space requirement of the device is so small that it can be accommodated on the dampening unit side without difficulty.
- the pneumatic cylinders - individually or several at the same time - can be controlled without delay from the control panel of the offset printing press and are held on a bar which extends over the entire length of the plate cylinder and runs parallel to the cylinder axis, with their piston rods all having the same stroke length .
- the cleaning device is thus actuated from the same point from which the ink zone screws are remotely controlled in order to adjust the ink layer thickness.
- the wipers consist of a rear base part and a front pressure lip, both of which have approximately a cuboid shape, the base part being substantially thicker and wider than the pressure lip which projects over both sides of the base part; the base part should have about three times the thickness and width of the pressure lip.
- the insertion opening for the piston rod is made in the center of the base part from the rear thereof.
- the comparatively weak dimensioning of the pressure lip and its lateral protrusion compared to the base part on each side is preferably about 5 mm, facilitates the elastic deformation in the course of pressing the scraper on the plate cylinder.
- the length of each base part is equal to the width of the corresponding color zone appearing on the control panel of the offset printing press.
- Fig. 1 shows five pneumatic cylinders 1a - 1e, which are a rectangular in cross-section and longitudinal section 2a - 2e with the dimensions 48 ⁇ 12 ⁇ 5 mm like a piston rod 3, of which only the piston rods 3a and 3c are visible.
- the piston rods 3 are fork-shaped; at their free end, the two fork arms are bridged by a web 4. Compressed air supplies are indicated with 5a - 5e.
- the pneumatic cylinders 1a - 1e are screwed onto a continuous bar 6.
- the cylinders 1a-1e are provided with a rear tab 7a-7e with bores 8a-8e and a front housing bore 9a-9e; the fastening screw inserted into the housing bore 9a - 9e runs between the two fork arms of the piston rod 3.
- Scraper 10a - 10e made of elastic material are pushed onto the free end of the piston rods 3 and consist of a rear base part 11a - 11e and a front pressure lip 12a - 12e.
- the base part 11a-11e is much thicker and wider than the pressure lip 12a-12e and has an insertion opening 13 for the piston rod 3.
- the base part 11a - 11e arcuate into the pressure lip 12a - 12e, each of which has lateral protrusions 12a1, 12a2, ..., 12e2.
- the wipers 10a - 10e are arranged with respect to one another in such a way that, in the first, third and fifth wipers 10a, 10c, 10e, the pressure lip 12a, 12c, 12e below, in the second and fourth wipers 10b, 10d, however, the pressure lip 12b, 12d is arranged at the top, so that the adjacent lateral projections (eg 12a2 and 12b1) overlap each other.
- a closed front covering the entire length of the plate cylinder 14 is the wiper fer 10a - 10e formed, of which the strippers 10b, 10d, 10e are shown in the retracted position and the stripper 10a in the extended position, in which it is pressed against the surface of the plate cylinder 14.
- the scraper 10c is shown in a position slightly further extended than the scraper 10a.
- the scraper 10c cannot normally assume this position; it is only intended to illustrate the maximum stroke length, which is approximately 10 mm given the dimensions of the pneumatic cylinders 1a-1e given above. Since the maximum stroke length is somewhat greater than the distance between the front edge of the wipers 10a - 10e and the parallel surface of the plate cylinder 14, when the pneumatic cylinders 1a - 1e are acted upon, the wipers 10a 10e are always firmly and elastically pressed against the surface of the plate cylinder 14 and a compensation of any wear of the pressure lips 12a 12e guaranteed.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device for removing dirt particles from the plate cylinder of an offset printing machine, which extends over the entire length of the plate cylinder and engages it in the area between the ink transfer to the blanket cylinder and the dampening application.
In offset printing, the plate cylinder is always contaminated. These contaminants can be paper or cardboard fibers of the material to be printed, agglomerations or lumps originating from the printing ink, or air dust; they leave unprinted or color-free areas on the surface to be printed. To correct these errors, either the printing machine is stopped and the dirt particles are removed by hand, or a tool is pressed against the rotating plate cylinder while the printing machine is running, which removes the dirt particles.
There has been no shortage of attempts to make it possible to remove contaminations from the plate cylinder of offset printing presses which is free from these defects. In this context, solutions have become known, such as. in DE-OS 25 22 743, 27 15 445, 28 50 448 and 34 10 376 and 36 20 156 are described. The four named first The subject of publications is devices in which, relative to the color-free region of the plate cylinder, a guide is provided which extends parallel to its axis of rotation and over its entire length and on which a driven cleaning tool is held displaceably. However, these known devices have not found their way into practice. The reason for this is, on the one hand, that the space required for the guide, cleaning tool and drive is so large that the device can scarcely be accommodated in the very confined area of the dampening unit; on the other hand, it has proven to be disadvantageous that the cleaning tool has to be adjusted in each case, which requires very high accuracy because of the occasional only point contact between tool and cylinder, and that dirt particles present in several places can only be removed one after the other, both of which are tedious is and therefore results in a high proportion of rejects. Although the last-mentioned publication shows a device in which there is a cleaning tool extending over the entire length of the plate cylinder in the form of an application roller of the dampening unit, this known device has also not achieved the hoped-for success. On the one hand, the mechanical effort that makes it possible to convert the applicator roller into a cleaning tool is quite high; on the other hand, the cleaning success is by no means certain, since if the plate cylinder and applicator roller are not exactly parallel, removal of dirt particles over the entire cylinder length is no longer guaranteed. The relatively low pressure of the application roller on the plate cylinder also contributes to this, which can lead to the fact that the dirt particle is only squeezed flat and not removed.
The invention is intended to provide a cleaning device which does not adhere to these deficiencies of the known devices, and which thus allows the plate cylinder to be cleaned safely and quickly and completely while the offset printing press is running, with a minimal proportion of rejects. Starting from the known device described above, this object is achieved according to the invention in that a plurality of pneumatic cylinders are arranged distributed over the entire length of the plate cylinder, the non-rotatable piston rods of which have a stripper made of elastic material at their free end, two adjacent strippers being offset from one another and laterally are arranged overlapping and the stroke of each piston rod is slightly longer than the distance between the front edge of the retracted wipers and the surface of the plate cylinder.
In this embodiment, the wipers form a closed front which covers the entire length of the plate cylinder and which can be brought against the surface thereof in sections while the offset printing machine is running. It is then sufficient if only a single dirt particle is present to extend the relevant section, but if there are several dirt particles distributed over the length of the plate cylinder, these can be removed by simultaneously extending several sections in one go. The offset and laterally overlapping arrangement of the wipers prevents the formation of a dead zone between adjacent wipers. The dimensioning of the stroke path ensures that the extended scraper is firmly pressed against the plate cylinder at all times, the elasticity of the scraper material in conjunction with the flexibility of the pneumatic drive ensuring that there is no damage the surface of the plate cylinder comes; this dimensioning of the stroke also compensates for any scraper wear that may occur. Finally, when using the small-format pneumatic cylinders available on the market today, the space requirement of the device is so small that it can be accommodated on the dampening unit side without difficulty.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the pneumatic cylinders - individually or several at the same time - can be controlled without delay from the control panel of the offset printing press and are held on a bar which extends over the entire length of the plate cylinder and runs parallel to the cylinder axis, with their piston rods all having the same stroke length . The cleaning device is thus actuated from the same point from which the ink zone screws are remotely controlled in order to adjust the ink layer thickness. The attachment of all pneumatic cylinders on a single bar enables a very extensive pre-assembly of the cleaning device and simplifies its installation and removal.
It has proven to be particularly expedient if the wipers consist of a rear base part and a front pressure lip, both of which have approximately a cuboid shape, the base part being substantially thicker and wider than the pressure lip which projects over both sides of the base part; the base part should have about three times the thickness and width of the pressure lip. This creates the prerequisite for the fact that, according to a further feature of the invention, the insertion opening for the piston rod is made in the center of the base part from the rear thereof. The comparatively weak dimensioning of the pressure lip and its lateral protrusion compared to the base part on each side is preferably about 5 mm, facilitates the elastic deformation in the course of pressing the scraper on the plate cylinder.
According to a particularly advantageous feature of the invention, the length of each base part is equal to the width of the corresponding color zone appearing on the control panel of the offset printing press. This coordination considerably simplifies the operation of the cleaning device, since it makes lengthy investigations about which scraper has to be used to remove a dirt particle to be dispensed with or enables operation "at a glance".
In order to prevent dirt particles that have already been removed from sticking to the wipers and being released to the surface of the plate cylinder when they are pressed again, it is advisable to switch on a wiper that can be pressed against the underside of the wiper in the return path.
In the drawing, a preferred embodiment of the cleaning device according to the invention is shown.

The
Scraper 10a - 10e made of elastic material are pushed onto the free end of the piston rods 3 and consist of a rear base part 11a - 11e and a
The
