- the invention relates to a single-axle undercarriage with idler wheels for rail vehicles with a frame receiving the axle, which supports the vehicle via springs and which has a pivot bearing in the center of the axle.
- Rail vehicles that have to travel on narrow bends are usually equipped with bogies in order to achieve an almost radial setting of the wheels in the bend. This radial setting is necessary to reduce the skewing of the wheels relative to the rail when cornering and thus to avoid undesirable wear on the wheels and rails.
- bogie undercarriages are only used to achieve the desired setting of the wheels on the track curve.
- the 2 wheel sets in the 2-axle bogie are not fully utilized by the total vehicle weight.
- the leading wheelset of a bogie is only used to control the radial setting of the bogie in the track curve.
- Bogies are therefore not only suitable to a limited extent for low-wear sheet travel in tight bends, but are also too heavy and uneconomical due to the unnecessary second wheel set.
