Claims (6)

  1. A container for collecting refuse and like products, of the type comprising a compression chamber (1), a refuse receiving trough (2) in communication with the compression chamber (1) through a loading port (3), a first compacting device (4) pivotally mounted in the trough (2) between an extreme retracted position, in which it is remote from the loading port (3) and an extreme forward position, in which it extends therein, and a second compacting device (16), which limits the height of the loading port (3), said second device being movable between an extreme retracted position and an extreme forward position under the control of the first compacting device (4), characterized in that the first and second compacting devices (4, 16) are movable in opposite directions so that one moves to the forward position when the other moves to the retracted position and vice versa, and in that the second compacting device (16) decreases the dimensions of the loading port (3) and exerts an additional compression on the products transferred into the compression chamber (1) when the first device (4) moves to its retracted position, and increases said dimensions when the first device (4) moves to its forward position.
  2. The container according to claim 1, characterized in that the second compacting device (16) is provided at the lower end of a transverse wall (17) pivoted to the longitudinal walls (7) of the container about an axis (10) parallel to the pivot axis (6) of the first compacting device (4).
  3. The container according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the first compacting device (4) comprises two side arms (5) pivotally mounted on the longitudinal walls (7) of the container and is connected to the second compacting device (16) through two connecting rods (18) interposed between the latter and its side arms (5).
  4. The container according to claim 3, characterized in that the first compacting device (4) is movable between its forward and retracted positions under the control of two jacks (8) hinged to its side arms (5) and to the longitudinal walls (7) of the container, respectively.
  5. The container according to claim 4, characterized in that the hinge axis (10) of the jacks (8) on the longitudinal walls (7) registers with the pivot axis of the transverse wall (17) carrying the second compacting device (16).
  6. The container according to claim 4 or 5, characterized in that the longitudinal axes (11) of the jacks (8) extend above the pivot axis (6) of the side arms (5) on the longitudinal walls (7) of the container.
