Definitions
- the invention relates to a sheet-fed rotary printing press for single-sided multi-color printing or straight and reverse printing in series with devices for processing both paper and cardboard, each printing unit having a plate cylinder and a gum cylinder, a printing cylinder with a double diameter and a sheet transfer drum.
- a multi-color sheet-fed rotary printing press of the type outlined above is already known from DE-A-24 52 167.
- the impression cylinder of each printing unit of this machine and the turning cylinder arranged between two printing units are double in diameter.
- a suction system provided on the turning cylinder detects the rear edge of the freshly printed sheet lying on the smooth sheet guiding surface of the impression cylinder.
- the suction system transfers the detected trailing edge of the sheet to a gripper system, which then swings out again during the further rotational movement of the turning cylinder and now transfers the sheet with the trailing edge first to the gripper system of the subsequent impression cylinder.
- the suction system is designed as part of a coupling of a double swing arm.
- the known multi-color sheet-fed rotary printing press is basically suitable for processing cardboard.
- the trailing edge of the sheet must be removed from the smooth counterpressure surface of the impression cylinder by means of a suction system, a buckling of the rear sheet area is unavoidable during the transfer process of the trailing edge of the sheet to the gripper system of the turning cylinder, despite the use of a double rocker arm, which means that thicker cardboard, if any, is processed , would only be possible in the low speed ranges.
- the aforementioned kinking of the trailing edge of the sheet in fact causes the sheet to be torn off from the suction system due to the stiffness of the carton, particularly with higher machine outputs.
- pressure-free spaces for pressure segments must be available with this turning system.
- a sheet turning device for the rotary printing presses in series is also known, in which the printing cylinders of successive printing units are connected by a single sheet transfer drum.
- two pairs of gripper systems consisting of two interacting rows of clamping grippers are arranged in the printing cylinder, which follow the sheet transfer drum in the transport direction.
- Printing cylinder and sheet transfer drum have double diameter.
- suction boxes are provided which slightly lift the sheet to be turned from the outer surface of the sheet transfer drum as soon as a row of clamping grippers of the subsequent printing cylinder has gripped the trailing edge of the sheet.
- the sheet to be turned is kept taut by the suction boxes.
- the suction boxes suck on the non-printed side of the sheet, as soon as the gripper systems of the printing cylinder after the turning process pulls the rear sheet edge from the last suction box, the printed underside of the sheet can either be on the surface of the sheet transfer drum or on the lateral surface of the now Open the sheet transporting printing cylinder, whereby smearing of the printed image is inevitable.
- the trailing edge of the sheet can hardly be transferred without kinking with the two rows of grippers that come into action when the sheet is turned. This would give a thicker box permanent deformation that cannot be tolerated.
- bent cardboard edges cause malfunctions by hitting the following gripper edges and preventing the cardboard from being gripped correctly.
- a sheet-fed rotary printing press in a unit design with a device for optional perfecting and reverse printing in which a block designed as an independent unit is arranged between the similar printing units, which has a transfer cylinder and has a downstream reversing drum of the aforementioned type.
- the transfer cylinder works with one or two drying devices.
- the disadvantage of this module is that its side walls are not identical to those of the lower parts of the printing unit. The module therefore requires a special production.
- the sheet is also obviously sucked in by the gripper devices of the turning drum by the transfer cylinder and transferred to other gripping devices for the purpose of turning. A kinking of stiffer cardboard edges, as already explained above, cannot be avoided. You should also tear off the cardboard from the suction systems.
- the object of the invention is to provide a high-performance sheet-fed offset printing machine that can be converted at any time for single-sided multi-color printing or that can be converted from straight printing to face printing. Even after the conversion, it should be guaranteed that the paper, even thick cardboard, is processed without smearing. The use of the same side walls of the printing units in both types is desirable.
- a sheet-fed rotary printing press according to the invention can be designed such that in the lower parts of the printing unit with the printing cylinders cooperating sheet transfer drums of three times the diameter are provided. If this is the case, the invention is particularly advantageously suitable for single-sided multi-color printing of thick cardboard.
- the triple-diameter sheet transfer drums have no further guide elements apart from the gripper systems which have gripped the sheet in its front edge. Because of the weak curvature of the sheet transfer drums, the risk is low that the printed side of the sheet being transported hits the drum shaft and the pressure is thereby smeared.
- an embodiment of the invention can be converted from fine to fine and reprinting, it has at least one turning station.
- a printing unit lower part is then provided with a double-diameter sheet transfer drum between two printing units and a storage drum instead of the printing cylinder, a reversing cylinder being mounted in the printing unit following this printing unit part instead of the double-diameter sheet transfer drum.
- a reversing cylinder being mounted in the printing unit following this printing unit part instead of the double-diameter sheet transfer drum.
- the invention is illustrated by an embodiment with reference to the drawing. It is a four-color board machine that can be converted to a two / two face and reverse printing machine.
- the board machine shown only partially in the drawing has four printing units 1, 2, 3 and 4, with a printing unit lower part 5 fitted with parts of the turning station being inserted between printing unit 2 and printing unit 3.
- the sheets 7 to be processed are fed to the printing cylinder 9 of the printing unit 1.
- the sheet 7 receives its first imprint by means of plate cylinders 10 and rubber cylinders 11, both of which have simple diameters but are not shown in the figure. Since the printing cylinder 9 has a double diameter, it has two sheet guiding surfaces. It transfers the printed sheet 7 to the sheet transfer drum 12 of the printing unit 2. This has three times the diameter.
- the printing cylinder 9 of the printing unit 2 then receives the sheet 7.
- the second color is printed here via the plate cylinder 10 and rubber cylinder 11.
- a printing unit lower part 5 adjoins printing unit 2, in which a sheet transfer drum 6 with a double diameter and a storage drum 13, likewise with a double diameter, are mounted.
- the storage drum 13 takes the place of a printing cylinder 9.
- the sheet 7 which has so far been printed twice is now taken over by the sheet transfer drum 6 of the lower part 5 of the printing unit and fed to the storage drum 13.
- One of the two gripper systems 14 arranged at 180 ° to one another on the circumference of the storage drum detects the aligned front edge of the sheet 7.
- a suction device 20 sucks the sheet on the rear edge and tensions it in the circumferential and lateral directions.
- a turning cylinder 15 is mounted instead of the sheet transfer drum 6. It has twice the diameter and thus, symmetrically distributed over the circumference, two tong gripper systems 16.
- one of these tong gripper systems 16 detects the sheet 7 on its trailing edge in the face and back printing position of the board machine and thus now guides it with the trailing edge ahead of the printing cylinder 9 of the printing unit 3.
- the first back pressure takes place here with the aid of plate cylinder 10 and rubber cylinder 11.
- the turning station thus consists of the three sheet-guiding drums, the sheet transfer drum 6, the storage drum 13 and the turning cylinder 15, and is over two normal, i.e. equally designed printing unit lower parts distributed.
- the printing unit 4 is designed exactly like the printing unit 2. Accordingly, it has a sheet transfer drum 12 with a triple diameter, a printing cylinder 9 with a double diameter and plate cylinder 10 and rubber cylinder 11 with a single diameter. In this printing unit 4, the sheet 7 experiences its second counterprint and is finally deposited on a delivery stack by a sheet delivery device, not shown.
- the printing cylinder 9 is preferably provided with elevators which are easy to dispense.
- the printing unit lower part 5 corresponds completely in terms of its dimensioning and processing to the printing unit lower parts of the printing units 2, 3 and 4.
- Two bearing bores 18 and 19 are provided vertically one above the other in the side walls of these printing unit lower parts.
- the upper, somewhat smaller bearing bore 18 serves to accommodate the bearings for the sheet transfer drum 6 with twice the diameter.
- the respective lower, larger bearing bore 19 serves to receive the bearings of sheet transfer drums 12 with a triple diameter.
- the embodiment shown in the figure with sheet transfer drums which are only twice the diameter is more suitable.
- the entire turning station is equipped with less gripper system and is therefore easier to adjust.
- the sheet transfer is cheaper because of the arrangement of the cylinders to each other.
- the two types of cardboard machine according to the invention described have the advantage that even thick cardboard can be transported properly, safely and without smearing due to the large diameter of the sheet-guiding cylinders or drums. Due to the use of pliers grippers on the turning cylinder, kinking of the front edge of the box or the rear edge of the box can be avoided. If a storage drum with integrated format adjustment with rotary suction cups on the rear edge is used, a far higher quality standard can be achieved compared to the known turning devices. All in all, the multi-color printing machine shown offers the possibility of processing both paper and thick cardboard in a register-free and smudge-free manner in the entire format range, even at high printing speeds. It is obvious that the lower part 5 of the printing unit could also be provided between the printing units 1 and 2 or 3 and 4. It is particularly advantageous that the side walls of the lower parts of the printing unit of the printing units 2, 3, 4 and 5 can be made absolutely identical.
