Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a sealed device for connecting two insulated electrical conductors making it possible to simultaneously ensure the electrical junction of the conductors and the dielectric continuity of the insulators, comprising on the one hand a conductive sleeve in one piece of malleable material comprising two cavities for each receiving a conductor including an insulated part of the latter, and further comprising an insulating sleeve which envelops said conductive sleeve, each conductor being held in its cavity after insertion by radial crimping of the conductive sleeve at the level of the cavity .
  • Such a device is known, for example from document US-A-3,011,010.
  • the insulating sleeve of this device is compressed axially during the mounting of the conductors and thus clears the openings of the two cavities. After placing the conductors and crimping their ends in the cavities of the conductive sleeve, the insulating sleeve is released and the edges of this sleeve then conform to the insulation of the two conductors outside the cavities.
  • these edges not being crimped on the insulator of the conductors, the sealing is imperfect and attacks of galvanic origin deteriorate the cables and sleeves when the conductors of different nature are brought together, for example in the case of a copper core conductor combined with an aluminum core conductor.
  • document US-A-2 751 570 shows a connection device with a conductive sleeve which has two cavities for the metallic core of the two conductors, this core being held in its cavity by crimping the sleeve. .
  • additional sleeves are provided on either side of the conductive sleeve, which are crimped onto the conductive insulator and on the edge of the conductive sleeve.
  • the drawback of this device is that it requires two crimping operations and that the conductive sleeve is not protected from the outside, which entails the risk of moisture penetration between the two sleeves.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a device as specified above which ensures, by a single crimping, the maintenance of the conductors and a perfect seal of the connection.
  • a sealed device for connecting two insulated electrical conductors making it possible to simultaneously ensure the electrical junction of the conductors and the dielectric continuity of the insulators, comprising on the one hand a conductive sleeve in one piece of malleable material comprising two cavities to each receive a conductor including an insulated part thereof, and further comprising an insulating sleeve which envelops said conductive sleeve, each conductor being held in its cavity after insertion by radial crimping of the conductive sleeve at the cavity, which is characterized in that at each end, the insulating sleeve is associated with an insulating tube, which enters by a first part into said cavity, and of which another part outside this cavity is tightly fixed to the sleeve insulating.
  • FIGS 3, 4 and 5 show in section three variants of the device according to the invention.
  • the device comprises a tubular sleeve 1 of malleable conductive metal surrounded by an insulating sleeve 2.
  • the sleeve 1 has a partition 4 which serves as a stop for positioning the conductor inside the sleeve 1.
  • the insulating sleeve 2 extends from there from the ends of the sleeve 1 so as to cover over a certain length the insulating conductor 7.
  • Figure 1 shows the conductor before crimping, in position in the metal sleeve 1, with its stripped portion 8 surrounded by grease 9 ensuring sealing and better contact.
  • the device further comprises an insulating tube 11 which penetrates inside the conductive sleeve into a bore 10.
  • the tube 11 has an outside diameter substantially equal to the inside diameter of the bore 10 at the end of the conductive sleeve so as to be able get inside of it.
  • the tube 11 can be made of the same material as the insulating rod 2, for example it can be constituted by a sheath of small thickness made of heat-shrinkable PVC.
  • the conductive sleeve can be made for example from copper, aluminum, or an alloy of one of these metals.
  • the tube 11 is glued or welded to a certain part of the end of the insulating sleeve 2 either by cold plastic glue or by a hot foaming coating.
  • Figure 2 shows the sleeve of Figure 1 after crimping the conductive sleeve on the conductors.
  • a sealing crimp at 12 simultaneously crushes the insulating sleeve 2, the conductive sleeve 1 and the insulating tube 11 on the insulator 7 of the conductor thus ensuring the tightness of the connection device.
  • the other crimps produced on the middle part of the insulated sleeve, at 13 for example ensuring both the retention of the conductors in the sleeve and the good contact between the conductive sleeve and the stripped conductors 8.
  • FIG. 3 represents a variant in which the end tube has two parts 14 and 15, the part 14 having an outside diameter matching the end bore 10 of the conductive sleeve 1 and the part 15 having a diameter equal to outer diameter of the conductive sleeve 1.
  • the part 14 of the tube 11 is introduced into the bore 10 of the conductive sleeve 1, the part 15 remaining outside the conductive sleeve.
  • the tube 11 is either glued or force-fitted into the bore 10 of the conductive sleeve 1.
  • the sealing crimp 12 is produced at the part 14 so as to compress the conductive sleeve and the tube 13 on the insulator 7 of the conductor.
  • FIG. 4 gives another variant of the end tube 16 comprising an inner tube 11 and an outer flap 17 folded over the end of the insulating sleeve 2 and the conductive sleeve 1.
  • the sealing crimp 12 is also made so as to compress the insulating sleeve 2, the conductive sleeve 1 and the tube 11 on the insulator of the conductor.
  • the tube 16 is glued, welded or forced into the end bore 10 of the conductive sleeve.
  • the flap 17 is glued, welded or force-fitted onto the insulating sleeve 2.
  • the insulating sleeve 2 for the various embodiments is made of an insulating material having the property on the one hand of being deformed to trap the metallic sleeve and on the other hand of mechanically resisting the forces developed for the formation of teeth or crimps or deformations without these forces produce harmful effects on said insulating material, it is possible to use, for example, a polyamide sleeve known under the trade name "nylon” or polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
  • the insulating sleeve is tightened on the conductive sleeve so as to prevent any longitudinal displacement between the insulating sleeve and the conductive sleeve.
  • An advantage of the invention is that the conductor placed inside the sleeve before crimping, maintains itself in the sleeve, which frees the hands for the crimping operation.
  • FIG. 4 represents a variant in which the end tube 18 has a knockout wall 19 which ensures, after introduction of the conductor into the sleeve, a pressure on the insulator of the conductor and therefore the conductor is held in the sleeve which releases hands for the crimping operation.
  • the part 19 may include an opening 20 which facilitates its deformation when the conductor is introduced into the sleeve.
  • the left part of FIG. 5 represents the sleeve before introduction of the cables and the right part of FIG. The sleeve after introduction of the cable.
