In the catalytic production of hydrogen cyanide from hydrocarbons,
like methane, ammonia and oxygen, with the help of spanned transverse to the direction of flow
Wire meshes made from platinum alloys not only experience a general erosion of the
Wires, but also a peculiar destruction of the edge of the network. One tried
prevent this destruction by treating the vulnerable areas with gases that
contains practically no soot-forming components, rinsed. By this measure
should congestion of the reaction gas containing carbon compounds at the
Avoided position between the catalyst and the reaction vessel and consequently corrosion phenomena
on the catalyst, such as the formation of carbides, can be largely restricted. Around
cooling of the catalyst at the point of entry, which favors the formation of soot
To reduce or avoid the purge gas, the purge gas can be preheated to
Application. In addition, low levels of hydrocyanic acid can not be impaired
Amounts of free oxygen or oxygen bound in the form of water vapor or carbon dioxide
are mixed in, whereby any temporarily formed soot nuclei are eliminated.
It has now been found that the changes described, the
Platinum alloys in the production of hydrogen cyanide carried out on them
suffer and which lead to a weakening of their mechanical properties to the point of complete
Loss of the metallic character, can prevent in a simple manner,
if you avoid shielding the gas mixture to be converted from
iVetzrand by separate supply of inert gases, the network edge adds so much heat,
that it is kept at temperatures of at least about 100 ° C. by
the mentioned places about the necessary for the actual implementation, in the gas mixture
the amount of oxygen already contained additionally supplies pure oxygen, e.g.
B. by means of a nozzle system, or by the zone of the network edge by a
electric heating additionally heated. Well known is the catalytic production
of hydrogen cyanide from hydrocarbons, e.g. B. methane, ammonia and oxygen,
an exothermic process that requires rapid cooling of the converted gas mixture,
in order to prevent the decomposition of the hydrocyanic acid formed by the water that is also formed.
The exothermic character of the implementation as well as that following the implementation
rapid cooling of the gas mixture make it appear desirable, the reaction temperature
as low as possible. When using alloys of platinum with
Iridium or rhodium as material for the catalyst gauzes are the most favorable
Reaction temperatures around 100o ° C. To go beyond these temperatures, '
a drop in the network edge zone due to heat dissipation to temperatures below
Preventing about 100o ° C is disadvantageous with regard to the aspects mentioned.
These disadvantages are avoided by the method of operation according to the invention. Opposite to
the known shielding of the gas mixture to be converted from the network edge zone
an inert gas cushion, the present method has the advantage that it also covers the edge zones
of the network for the conversion of hydrocarbons with ammonia and oxygen
exploited and one for the subsequent separation of the hydrogen cyanide formed
dilution of the reaction gas mixture with disadvantageous through cooling or absorption
avoids the inert gas serving as a cushion.
