Die Kurbelkröpfungen sind im Kurbelkreis so verteilt, daß je zwei Kolben gleichzeitig ihre oberen und unteren Totpunkte durchlaufen. Die auf diese Art paarweise zusammengehörigen Zylinder sind in Fig.2 mit gestrichelten Linien verbunden. Die Kurbelzapfen kuppeln also beispielsweise die beiden Kolben 2 und Io in Gleichlauf miteinander, so daß diese Kolben gleichzeitig ihre oberen und unteren Totpunkte durchlaufen und daher ihre Zündkerzen gleichzeitig mit dem Zündstrom beschickt werden müssen. Handelt es sich um eine Viertaktmaschine, bei der bei jedem Kurbelumlauf nur die Hälfte der Zündkerzen einen Zündstrom erhält, ergeben sich also bei der Zwölfzylindermaschine des Ausführungsbeispiels bei jedem Umlauf der Kurbelwelle nur drei Zündzeitpunkte, was zu einer wesentlichen Vereinfachung des Verteilers führt.Fig.3 shows schematically the crankshaft and shows that this has as many crank pins as there are cylinders, and that between successive ones Shaft bearings indicated by rectangles with a cross. are marked there are only two crank pins. B. i und 9, 5 und 6, 2 und io usw.) gleichzeitig ihre oberen und unteren Totpunkte durchlaufen.
