Method and device for measuring the viscosity of liquids
It is known to successively use a liquid in order to determine its viscosity
to pass through two nozzles, which are shaped so that the flow at one
The nozzle preferably depends on the viscosity and, in the case of the other, preferably on the density of the
Fluid depends. ' The viscosity is then derived from the pressure drop in the two nozzles
calculated or determined from a table. However, when reading the various
Prints and in the subsequent arithmetic or tabular determination
errors can easily occur due to the viscosity. The main disadvantage of the known device
but consists in that there is a continuous determination or reading of the viscosity
not possible. The known device is therefore for permanent control of the
Viscosity of a liquid, for example to monitor lubricity
of oils in motor vehicles or other engines or work machines, not usable.
According to the invention, the disadvantages mentioned are eliminated by
that the pressure drop in one nozzle is kept constant with the help of a pressure regulator
and the viscosity is only determined from the pressure drop in the second nozzle
can be read directly from the appropriately calibrated pressure gauge. The new device
has extremely few moving parts and is therefore cheap to manufacture
and durable. The measurement accuracy is generally the same or smell
be greater than with the known method, since the number of sources of error is lower
is.
dargestellt. The drawing shows a measuring device according to the invention as an exemplary embodiment
shown.
The liquid flows from the line a through the valve b into the chamber d, which is through an expansion pipe, e.g. B. a corrugated tube e is formed. From the chamber d the liquid passes through the sharp-edged nozzle 1a into the chamber i. The valve b, the cone c of which is firmly connected to the bottom f of the corrugated pipe e by means of the connecting rods, is controlled by the corrugated pipe and, if necessary, by the spring L resting against the floor f, by pushing the corrugated pipe e under the action of the pressure difference between the chambers d and i seeks to expand and the elasticity of the pipe wall in conjunction with the spring l counteracts this movement. As a result, valve b maintains a constant pressure difference between chambers d and i . Under this constant differential pressure, the liquid flows through the sharp-edged nozzle h and then passes through the discharge line j into the friction nozzle k. The viscosity can be read directly from the manometer m connected to the latter.
The wall e of the chamber d can, instead of a corrugated tube, also be designed as a telescopic cylinder with parts resiliently connected to one another or as a cylinder with an expandable diaphragm.
j
angeordnet ist. Selbstverständlich muß hierbei das Manometer anders geeicht
werden. In the device shown in the drawing, the pressure drop in the sharp-edged nozzle h is kept constant and the viscosity-dependent pressure drop in the friction nozzle k is measured. If, instead, the pressure drop in the friction nozzle is to be kept constant and that in the sharp-edged nozzle is to be measured, you only need to swap nozzles h and k , so that the friction nozzle k is arranged in the chamber floor and the sharp-edged nozzle h is arranged in the discharge line j is. Of course, the manometer has to be calibrated differently.
