Description
Method and device for measuring the liquid content in closed Containers For measuring the liquid content in closed containers, in particular of the fuel supply in land, water and fuel operated by internal combustion engines Aircraft, methods are proposed in which the free space above of the liquid level changed by a certain amount, either reduced or is enlarged. The change that this creates is the pressure of the above the liquid level trapped air is measured by means of a manometer and is used as a measure of the liquid content. These known procedures and those used to practice The devices specified in the procedure are defective insofar as the measured value serving change in pressure in the closed space above the liquid level, which occurs when the room is enlarged or reduced by a certain amount depends on the initial pressure. It is therefore not used with the known facilities for a completely safe air seal, which is hardly reachable, -so have to go through the changing barometer reading errors occur. Even the usual fluctuations the barometer readings cause quite annoying measurement errors for land and water vehicles. For use on board aircraft, however, the known devices are whole unusable or only usable with cumbersome safety devices, because the air pressure changes very quickly with altitude.
The purpose of the present invention is to avoid these sources of error and to make the measurement method easy and safe to use. This is done in the achieved in the simplest way in that the size is measured by which the free space above the liquid level must be changed so that the Pressure in the changed free space to the pressure in a closed auxiliary space is in a predetermined relationship, preferably this pressure is the equilibrium holds. This completely avoids a pressure gauge as a display device, which is much more needed a device suitable for practicing the new method only a differential manometer; to which both rooms - the room in the container to be measured above the liquid level and the auxiliary room - are to be connected and from which it can be read whether the pressure is the same in both rooms or whether a certain pressure ratio in the rooms. The size used in the simplest way is to use as the measured value which increase the space in the container above the liquid level or to shrink. To carry out the new procedure you can Devices of various types are used. A particularly simple measuring device is shown in the pictures.
In Figs. Z, 2 and 3 of the drawing there is an embodiment of the device according to the invention in the three possible positions of the movable Parts shown schematically, V denotes the liquid container, V1 its free space above the liquid, which can be changed in size with the help of a Space A can be enlarged and reduced, J the space around which the piston in the Additional space A is lifted during pressure equalization, B is used to produce the reference pressure certain auxiliary container, h is the stroke height of the piston of this auxiliary container, S a Graduation for reading a pointer Z on the piston rod of A and k, l valves for pressure equalization for both sides of the liquid manometer D. This can by another pressure differential meter, e.g. B. can manometer with membrane replaced will.
In the rest position (Fig. Z) the piston of the additional space A is in the lowest position, that of the auxiliary container B is in a predetermined position; valves k, l are open and the liquid in manometer D is at 0-0.
When using the device, first after closing the valves k, l in B by pulling out the piston by the distance h, a certain negative pressure is produced, which can be seen in the pressure gauge D (FIG. 2); then the piston of A is pulled out so far that the pressure gauge D returns to the 0-0 position, i.e. pressure equalization has occurred (Fig. 3). The size of the free space V in the liquid container V can now be read from that graduation of the graduation S at which the pointer Z has stopped. The difference between the total content of the container V and the number read then gives the amount of liquid.
When working with overpressure, the pistons of B and A are pushed inwards from their starting positions.
If Po denotes the original pressure in the free space Vi of the container including the additional space A before the execution of the equalization stroke, which pressure will usually be the external air pressure, and p1 denotes the pressure after execution of the equalization stroke in the example described is a negative pressure 1-,. # Po = (J - (- V,) = P1. Since the ratio of the pressures is invariable, ie P1 = Po c (where c is a constant), we get The constant c can be determined from the dimensions of the auxiliary container B, whose original space in front of the piston is in and whose displacement is n. Then m ih, = (m + n) P, and, since p ,. = c po, This constant, inserted into the formula for V, gives The same result is achieved when using overpressure.
A.The free space V1 in the liquid container V is therefore proportionate to J and, since the cross-section of the auxiliary container A is always the same and known, in proportion to the respective stroke height of the piston in A.
