Description

Consists of a mixture of dilute sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid Electrolyte for lead collectors 2n the operating instructions for lead collectors is always warned against discharging the collector too deeply and longer when discharged Allow time to stand, as this causes what is known as harmful sulfation to occur, namely the formation of larger crystals of lead sulphate, which cause it to warp and grow of the positive plates and only slowly when the subsequent charge and return them incompletely to the starting materials.

The present invention is based on the discovery that the harmful Sulphation even if the collector has been standing for a very long time in a deeply discharged state does not occur if the electrolyte consisting of dilute sulfuric acid is a Contains a small amount of phosphoric acid. A content of 10 g has been found to be expedient anhydrous orthophosphoric acid per liter of electrolyte, but this content can be can be changed up or down without disadvantages, but should not be more than 2o g, as a substantial increase in the voltage and capacity of the collector would decrease. The phosphoric acid can be added to the electrolyte - as orthophosphoric acid or in the form of meta- or pyrophosphoric acid, which in the collector is orthophosphoric acid pass over. The addition of phosphoric acid salts to the electrolyte is not recommended, there are the cations of the only grainy salts of alkalis or ammonia shorten the life of the collector plates. It is therefore essential that the electrolyte is free from salts of alkalis and ammonia. On the other hand, it is reasonable to Production of the plates as an effective mass of lead phosphate alone or in admixture with To use lead oxides or the lead oxides with phosphoric acid to a lubricious one and to make hardening paste if the plates are permanently in the same electrolyte remain in which they went through their formation and which therefore the contains phosphoric acid originally present in the effective composition.

The lead collector provided with the electrolyte according to the invention are, offer the great practical advantage over the previous that they as a result Elimination of the harmful sulfation, insensitive to too deep discharge and long standing in a discharged state, and therefore do not allow them to be careful, require proper maintenance.
