Description
Die spritzgießfähigen Polyalkylenterephthalate haben auf Grund ihrer vorteilhaften Eigenschaften, wie
hohe Verschleißfestigkeit, günstiges Zeitstandverhalten und hohe Maßhaltigkeit breiten Eingang in die
thermoplastenverarbeitende Industrie gefunden. Poly· äthylenterephthalat (PÄT) hat vor allen als Faser- und
Folienrohstoff große Bedeutung erlangt, während Polypropylenterephthalat (PPT) und Polybutylenterephthalat
(PBT) hauptsächlich als Konstruktionswerkstoffe dienen. Für diesen Zweck werden sie wegen ihrer
vergleichsweise höheren Kristallisationsgeschwindigkeit, der daraus resultierenden Möglichkeit der Herabsetzung
der Werkzeugtemperaturen und einer Verkürzung der Formzeiten dem PÄT vorgezogen; außerdem
trägt die hohe Kristallinitat wesentlich zur bekanntlich hohen Wärmeformbeständigkeit von PPT und PBT bei.
Zwecks Erhöhung des Molekulargewichts werden in der Polyalkylenterephthalat-Technologie vornehmlich
zwei Maßnahmen, nämlich das Kettenverlängerungsverfahren oder die Festphasennachkondensation angewandt
Beide Verfahren ermöglichen die Herstellung von hochmolekularen und damit hochviskosen Polykondensaten.
Da bekanntlich das Molekulargewicht die Langzeiteigenschaften eines Polykondensate maßgeblich
mitbeeinflußt, erschien es wünschenswert, unter Vermeidung neu entstehender Nachteile das Molekulargewicht
über das bislang mögliche Maß weiter zu erhöhen. Als MaB für die Höhe des Molekulargewichts
sei im folgenden die Intrinsic-Viskosität, gemessen in
Phenol/Tetrachloräthan 1 :1 bei 25° C genannt.
Die FR-PS 1457 711 betrifft Polyhexamethylenterephthalate
und berührt den Gegenstand unserer Erfindung daher nicht
Pie DE-OS 22 43 488 befaßt sich mit dem Problem der Erhöhung der Kristallisationsgeschwindigkeit von
Polybutylenterephthalaten. Gemäß dieser Druckschrift wird das Problem aber nicht in erster linie durch Einbau
von Codiolen, sondern durch Verzweigung mit tri- oder
höherfunktionellen Verbindungen gelöst Es wird zwar
ίο offenbart, daß gegebenenfalls bis zu 10 Mol-% des
Butandiols durch andere aliphatische Diole mit 2-10 Kohlenstoffatomen oder cycloaliphatische!! Diolen mit
8—12 Kohlenstoffatomen ersetzt werden können; gleichzeitig wird aber mitgeteilt, daß auf diese
is Maßnahme vorzugsweise verzichtet wird (vgl. Seite 3,
Absatz 1 der DE-OS 2243488). Es mußte also angenommen werden, daß der Einbau von Codiol
keinen bemerkenswerten Einfluß auf die fCfotallinität
der Polyester hat
Selbstverständlich ist bei höherverzweigten Polyestern gemäß DE-OS 22 43 488 aufgrund der anderen
Theologischen Eigenschaften z. B. mit einer Erhöhung der Fließfähigkeit zu rechnen — bei der Polyesterverarbeitung
ein entscheidender Nachteil.
Überraschenderweise wurde nun gefunden, daß man den Grad der Kristallinität — nicht nur deren
Geschwindigkeit — erhöhen kann, wenn man den genannten Teil des Propandiols-1,3 bzw. des Butandiols-1,4
durch 2-Äthylpropandiol-l,313-MethyIpentan-
jo diol-1,5 und/oder 2-Äthyl-2-methoxvmethyI-pΓopandiol-1,4
ersetzt In diesem Zusammenhang sei darauf hingewiesen, daß die Kristallinität eines Polyesters die
mechanischen Eigenschaften, die Kristallisationsgeschwindigkeit aber in erster Linie die Formstandzeit
J5 beeinflußt So lösen die diskutierten Literaturstellen und
die vorliegende Erfindung also zwei verschiedene Probleme.
Erfindungsgemäß kann das Molekulargewicht von PPT und PBT durch Copolymerisation mit dem
bestimmten Diolen beträchtlich angehoben werden. Die resultierenden, dem PPT oder PBT chemisch sehr
nahestehenden Copolyester weisen eine höhere Viskosität als PPT bzw. PBT selbst auf, ohne daß eine Störung
der Kristallinität oder eine Schmelztemperaturdepression auftritt; vielmehr kann in zahlreichen Fällen sogar
ein Anstieg dieser Eigenschaften verzeichnet werden. Dieses Ergebnis erscheint umso überraschender, als es
allgemein als gesicherte Erfahrung gilt, daß Copolyester
geringere Kristallinität und tiefere Schmelztemperaturen und damit ein niedrigeres Elastizitätsmodul,
geringere Zugfestigkeiten und schlechtere Wärmebeständigkeiten besitzen als die entsprechenden Homopolyester
(vgL z. b.',. G. Smith et al, J. Polym. Sd, A-I, Vol.
4 [196611851).
Gegenstand der vorliegenden Erfindung sind thermoplastische hochkristalline, lineare, statistische Copolyester
die eine Intrinsic·Viskosität von a 0,6 dl/g,
gemessen in Phenol/Tetrachloräthan 1:1 bei 250C,
aufweisen, auf der Basis von Dicarbonsäurediolestern, deren Dicarbonsäurekomponente zu mindestens
90ΜοΙ·% aus Terephthalsäure besteht, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß die Diolkomponente ihrerseits aus 90 bis 994 Mol-% Propandiol-1,3- oder Butandiol-l,4-resten
und 0,5 bis 10 Mol-% Resten von 2-Äthylpropandiol-U.
3*Methylpentandiol-14 und/oder 2-Athyl-2-methoxymethylpfopandiol-13
besteht
Weiterhin ist Gegenstand der Erfindung ein Verfahren zur Herstellung der Copolyester nach Anspruch 1,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man 1 Mol einer Dicar
bonsäurekomponente, die ihrerseits zu mindestem)
90 Mol-% aus Terephthalsäure oder einem esterbilden den Derivat derselben besteht, mit 1,1— 2^MoI einer
Diolkomponente, die zu 90 bis 99,5MoI-1M) au»
PropandioI-1,3 oder Butandiol-1,4 und zu 04 bin
10 Mol-% aus 2-Äthylpropandiol-U, 3-Methylpentan
diol-1,5 und/oder 2-Athyl-2-methoxymethyl-propandiol-lß
besteht, einem an sich bekannten Schmelzkondensationsverfahren unterwirft und anschließend im
fester Phase 5 bis 500C unterhalb der Polyester-Schmelztemperatur
unter Inertgas oder Vakuum in aiii sich bekannter Weise weiterkondensiert, bis eine:
Intrinsic-Viskosität von ä;0,6 dl/g, gemessen in Phenol/'
Tetrachloräthan 1:1 bei 25° C, erreicht ist Es ist zweckmäßig, das Primärkondensat der Festphasennachkondensation
in einheitlicher Korngröße zu unterwerfen, um eine optimale Polykondensation zu gewährleisten.
Bekanntlich wird die Polykondensation durch bekannte Katalysatoren, wie z.B. Titantetraalkylate;,
beschleunigt Auch die Nachkondensation erfolgl zweckmäßig unter Zusatz wirksamer Mengen der
bekannten Katalysatoren.
Neben Terephthalsäure oder ihren esterbildenden Derivaten können als Dicarbonsäurekomponenten bei
zu 10 Mol-% anderer gesättigter Dicarbonsäuren, wie z. B. Phthalsäure, Isophthalsäure, Adipinsäure, Sebacinsäure
oder die esterbildenden Derivate dieser Verbindungen, wie Anhydride und Ester Verwendung finden.
Beispiele 1-?
Erreichen der Temperatur von 260" C und des Druckes von 0,5 Torr führt man die Polykondensation noch
45 Min. weiter, wobei man eine klare viskose Schmelze des Copolyesters erhält Dieser Copolyester wird nach
dem Erkalten auf eine Korngröße von durchschnittlich 2 mm zerkleinert und anschließend 20 Std. im Vakuum
bei 200° C weiterkondensiert
Beispiele 1—3 beschreiben die erfindungsgemäßen Copolyester mit 1 -10 Mol-% 3-Methylpentandiol (1,5).

Vergleichsversuche 1 und 2 geben den Abfall der Eigenschaften der Copolyester wieder, wenn der Anteil
an 3-Methylpentandiol-(l,5) über 10 Mol-% erhöht
15 wird.
3834 g (0,2MoI) Dimethylterephthalat werden mit
einem Gemisch aus 24,4 g (0,721 Mol) Butandiol-(1,4) und 0,90 g (0,00864MoQ 2-Äthyl-propandioi-(U) in
Gegenwart von 0,02 g Titantetraisopropylat 2 Std. bei
200° C umgeestert Anschließend wird innerhalb von 1 Std. die Temperatur auf 2600C angehoben, während
gleichzeitig der Druck auf 0,5 Torr gesenkt wird. Nach
weiteren 45 Min. wird die Polykondensation beendet Beim Abkühlen erstarrt die zähe Schmelze des
gebildeten Copolyesters zu einer weißen, kristallinen Masse. Nach Zerkleinerung auf eine Korngröße von ca.
2 mm wird der erhaltene Copolyester 20 Std. bei 200° C im Vakuum weiterkondensiert Eigenschaften siehe
Tabellen

2 Std. bei 200° C umgeestert Nach Beendigung der Umesterung wird die Temperatur des
Umesterungsproduktes innerhalb von 1 Std. auf 260° C angehoben, wobei gleichzeitig der Druck im Reaktionsgefäß von 760 Torr auf O^ Torr gesenkt wird. Nach

Beispiel 4 wird ersetzt durch 1,32 g (0,00891 MoI) 2-Äthyl-2-methoxvmethylpropandiol-(t 3). Eigenschaften

Claims (2)
1. Thermoplastische hochkristalline, linerare, statistische
Copolyester, die eine Intrinsic-Viskosität von >0,6 dl/g, gemessen in Phenol/Tetrachloräthan 1 :1
bei 25° C, aufweisen, auf der Basis von Dicarbonsäurediolestern,
deren Dicarbonsäurekomponente zu mindestens 90 Mol-% aus Terephthalsäure besteht,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Diolkomponente ihrerseits aus 90 bis 994 Mol-%
Propandiol-13- oder Butandiol-l,4-resten und 0,5 bis
10 Mol-% Resten von 2-ÄthylpropandioI-l,3, und/ oder 2-Äthyl-2-methoxymethylpropandiol-l,3 besteht
2. Verfahren zur Herstellung der Copolyester nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man
1 Mol einer Dicarbonsäurekomponente, die ihrerseits zu mindestens 90 Mol-% Terephthalsäure oder
einem esterbildenden Derivat derselben besteht, mit 1,1-23MoI einer Diolkomponente, die zu 90 bis
99,5 Mol-% aus Propandiol-13 oder Butandiol-1,4
und zu O^ bis 10 Mol-% aus 2-Äthylpropandiol-l,3,
3-Methylpentandiol-l,5 und/oder 2-Athyl-2-methoxymethyI-propandiol-1,3
besteht, einem an sich bekannten Schmelzkondensationsverfahren unterwirft
und anschließend in fester Phase 5 bis 50° C unterhalb der Polyester-Schmelztemperatur unter
Inertgas oder Vakuum in an sich bekannter Weise weiterkondensiert, bis eine Intrinsic-Viskosität von
> 0,6 dl/g, gemessen in Phenol/Tetrachloräthan 1:1
bei 25° C, erreicht ist
