Zur Verhütung von Ausfällungen mehrwertiger Metallionen werden Verbindungen unterschiedlicher
Struktur verwendet. Bekannte Komplexbildner sind beispielsweise Aminoessigsäuren oder deren Alkaüsalze,
von denen insbesondere Nitrilotriessigsäure und Alkylendiamintetraessigsäure Anwendung finden, da sie
in ausgezeichneter Weise die Härtebildner des Wassers und auch Schwermetallionen binden. Diese Stoffe haben
jedoch den Nachteil, daß sie in stöchiometrischen Mengen vorliegen müssen, um eine Komplexierung zu
erreichen. Ebenfalls werden für derartige Zwecke Polyphosphate verwendet, die den Vorteil haben, auch
in unterstöchiometrischen Mengen wirksam zu sein.
Polyphosphate sind jedoch unter gewissen Bedingungen nicht hydrolysenstabil. Auch ist es in bestimmten
Fällen unerwünscht, große Mengen in Wasch- und Reinigungsmitteln zu verwenden.
Man hat daher auch schon bestimmte Polyphosphonsäuren, wie beispielsweise Hydroxyäthandiphosphonsäure
und Aminotrimethylenphosphonsäure als Komplexbildner verwendet, da diese Verbindungen auch in
unterstöchiometrischen Mengen verwendet werden können und hydrolysenstabil sind. Jedoch ist auch bei
diesen Verbindungen der Phosphorgehalt relativ hoch.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß man organische Verbindungen der nachstehend beschriebenen Konstitution
als Komplexbildner verwenden kann, wobei diese Verbindungen in unterstöchiometrischen Mengen verwendet
werden können, hydrolysenstabil sind und einen geringeren Phosphorgehalt aufweisen. Die erfindungsgemäß
als Komplexbildner für mehrwertige Metallionen zur Anwendung gelangenden organischen Verbindungen

Anstelle der Säuren können gegebenenfalls auch die entsprechenden wasserlöslichen Salze wie Kalium-,
Natrium- und Ammoniumsalze oder Salze mit organischen Basen verwendet werden. Als letztere kommen
insbesondere Alkanolamine wie Monoäthanolamin, Diethanolamin oder Triäthanolamin in Betracht. Die
Herstellung kann durch vollständige oder teilweise Neutralisation der Säuren mit anorganischen oder
organischen Basen wie NaOH, KOH, NH4OH oder Alkanolaminen sowie auch mit Alkalicarbonaten erfolgen.
Der obengenannten Formel entsprechen die Verbindungen:
i-Phosphonopropan-i^-tricarbonsäure,
l-Phosphonobutan-2,3,4-tricarbonsäure,
1,1 -Diphosphonopropan-2,3-dicarbonsäure,
2-Phosphonobutan-2,3,4-tricarbonsäureund

l-Phosphonopropan-l,2,3-tricarbonsäure kann hergestellt werden durch Umsetzung von Maleinsäureester
mit Phosphonoessigsäureester in Gegenwart von Alkoholat und anschließender Verseifung des erhaltenen
Esters. Die Herstellung von 1-Phosphonobutan-2,3,4-tricarbonsäure
kann erfolgen durch Umsetzung von Dimethylphosphit mit l-Buten-2,3,4-tricarbonsäureester
in Gegenwart von Natriumalkoholat und anschließender Verseifung des angefallenen Esters zu
der gewünschten Säure.
Durch Umsetzung von Methylendiphosphonsäurealkylester
mit Maleinsäurealkylester in Gegenwart von Natriumalkoholat wird ein Ester erhalten, der durch
saure Hydrolyse in l,l-Diphosphonopropan-2,3-dicarbonsäure überführt wird.
2-Phosphonobutan-2,3,4-tricarbonsäure kann erhalten werden durch Umsetzung von «-Diäthylphosphonopropionsäuremeihylester
mit Maleinsäurediäthylesler in Gegenwart von Alkoholat und anschließender
Verseifung des erhaltenen Esters.
Die Herstellung von 2,2-Diphosphonobutan-3,4dicarbonsäure
erfolgt durch Umsetzung von Maleinsäureester mit Äthan-l,l-diphosphonsäureester in Gegenwart
von Natriumalkoholat und anschließender saurer Verseifung des erhaltenen Produktes.
Die Überführung der oben beschriebenen Phosphonsäuren in die entsprechenden Salze kann in bekannter
s Weise durch Neutralisation mit Alkalihydroxiden, Ammoniumhydroxid oder Mono-, Di- oder Triäthanolamin
erfolgen.
Die obengenannten Verbindungen, einschließlich ihrer Alkali-, Ammonium- oder Alkanolaminsalze, sind
gute Komplexbildner für Erdalkali, vorzugsweise Calchimionen, und können daher speziell für Vorgänge
der Wasserenthärtung Anwendung finden. Es ist dabei nicht notwendig, mit stöchiometrischen Mengen zu
arbeiten, sondern man kann auch durch Anwendung unterstöchiometrischer Mengen Calcitfällungen erheblich
verzögern.
Sie sind daher auch als Korrosions- und Steinansatzverhütungsmittel
für Kühlwasser, insbesondere in Kombination mit an sich bekannten Zusätzen, wie
beispielsweise zweiwertige Zink- und/oder Cadmiumsalze,
Orthophosphate, Chromate oder Hydrazinhydrat gut geeignet
Was je nach der zur Anwendung gelangenden Verbindung als stöchiometrische Menge anzusehen ist,
läßt sich durch einen einfachen Versuch leicht ermiteln. Im allgemeinen werden die Komplexbildner in Mengen
von 1 Mol per 2000 Mol Metallionen bis zur sechsfachen stöchiometrischen Menge verwendet
Die genannten Eigenschaften bewirken, daß die neuen Komplexbildner beispielsweise auch für die
Entkrustung von Geweben, in denen Alkalisalze sich abgelagert haben, und die Verminderung der Ascheanreicherung
in Geweben Anwendung finden können. Sie sind weiterhin geeignet für Reinigungsprozesse von
starren Gegenständen wie insbesondere Metall oder Glas. Hierbei kommt insbesondere die Verwendung als
Zusatz zu Flaschenspülmitteln in Betracht.
Von dem Komplexbildungsvermögen kann man in vorteilhafter Weise auch Gebrauch machen in Systemen,
in denen Kupferionen einen unerwünschten Einfluß haben. Als Beispiele sind hier die Vermeidung
der Zersetzung von Perverbindungen oder auch die Stabilisierung von Fetten und Seifen zu nennen.
Weiterhin sind die genannten Verbindungen als Zusatz zu Färbebädern von Textilien geeignet, um Metallionen,
die unerwünschte Farbnuancen bilden, komplex zu binden.
Schließlich kann das Vermögen der Komplexbildung auch dazu verwendet werden, um Pflanzen sogenannte
Spurenelemente zuzuführen. Das gute Komplexbildungsvermögen dieser Verbindungen zeigt sich auch
daran, daß die bekannte Rptfärbung nicht eintritt, welche sonst bei Zusatz von Rhodanid zu Lösungen, die
dreiwertiges Eisen enthalten, beobachtet wird. Man kann daher diese Eigenschaften auch in vorteilhafter
Weise dazu verwenden, um das Absetzen von Eisenverbindungen, insbesondere Eisenhydroxid auf
Geweben oder beim Flaschenspülen zu verhindern. Ebenfalls können die neuen Verbindungen anstelle von
Cyaniden in galvanischen Bädern eingesetzt werden.
Schließlich kommen sie auch als Buildersubstanzen mit komplexierenden Eigenschaften in Wasch- und
Reinigungsmitteln in Frage und können in Kombination mit bekannten anionenaktiven, kationenaktiven oder
iiichtionogenen Netzmitteln verwendet werden. Weiterhin
können sie in Kombination mit Ätzalkalien, Alkalicarbonaten, -Silikaten, Phosphaten oder Boraten
Anwendung finden.
Seispiel 1
0,5 Mol Methylendiphosphonsäuretetraäthylester
werden mit 0,5 Mol Maleinsäurediäthyiister in Gegenwart
von 25 ml gesättigter Natriumäthylatlösung 6 Stunden auf 110° C erhitzt. Anschließend wird das
Natriumalkoholat mit Essigsäure neutralisiert und das
Reaktionsgemisch im Vakuum rasch abdestilliert, um Zersetzung zu vermeiden. Das Rohdestillat wird erneut
destilliert, wobei die Hauptfraktion zwischen 190 bis ι ο 213° C bei einem Druck von 0,05 Torr anfällt. Ausbeute
ca. 50%.
Der erhaltene Ester hat folgende Analysendaten (in Gew.-%):
Gefunden: P 13,37, C 44,56, H 7,37; berechnet: P 13,48, C 4434, H 739.
Der Ester wird durch Kochen mit konzentrierter Salzsäure hydrolysiert Nach Reinigung mit Aktivkohle
und Einengung des Hydrolyse-Produktes kristallisiert l,l-Diphosphonopropan-2,3-dicarbonsäure aus. Ausbeute
ca. 100%, bezogen auf den Ester. Die Säure fällt als Monohydrat an und hat folgende Analysendaten (in
Gew.-%):

Das Molgewicht, ermittelt aus der potentiometrischen
Titration:

Das Monohydrat hat einen Schmelzpunkt von 149 bis 150° C
Aus der Säure können durch Neutralisation mit r> anorganischen Basen die entsprechenden Salze hergestellt
werden.
l-Buten-2,3,4-tricarbonsäuretrimethylester wurde mit der äquimolekularen Menge Dimethylphosphit in
Gegenwart gesättigter Natriumäthylatlösung bei 100 bis !100C umgesetzt. Nach Neutralisation des Äthylats
mit Eisessig wurde im Hochvakuum destilliert. Die Hauptfraktion destillierte bei 180 bis 190° C unter einem
Druck von 0,075 bis 0,10 mm Hg. Ausbeute an Ester 80%.
Der erhaltene Ester hat folgende Analysendaten (in Gew.-%):

Der so gewonnene Ester wurde durch Kochen mit halbkonzentrierter Salzsäure hydrolysiert. Nach Abdampfen
des Wassers wurde die kristallisierte 1-Phosphonobutan-2,3,4-tricarbonsäure
erhalten. Ausbeute 100%, bezogen auf den Ester.
Analysendaten (in Gew.-%):

0,5 Mol Λ-Diäthylphosphonopropionsäuremethylester
werden mit 0,5 Mol Maleinsäurediäthylester und 15 ml gesättigter Natriumäthylatlösung 5 bis 6 Stunden
auf 110°C erhitzt Nach Neutralisation mit Eisessig und
rascher Destillation werden ca. 78% des Rohesters erhalten. Die Redestillation ergibt bei 164 bis 170°C und
0,05 mm Druck eine Ausbeute von 69% an reinem Ester.
Der erhaltene Ester hat folgende Analysendaten (in Gew.-%):

Durch Hydrolyse des Esters mit Salzsäure und anschließender Neutralisation mit Natronlauge wird das
Pentanatriumsalz der 2-Phosphonobutan-23,4-tricarbonsäure erhalten. Das Salz fällt als Ol an und wird
durch Methanolbehandlung in die feste Form umgewandelt.
Das Molgewicht, ermittelt aus der Phosphoranalyse:

0,224 Mol Äthan-U-diphosphonsäuretetraisopropylester
wurden in Gegenwart von 15 ml gesättigter Natriumäthylatlösung mit der äquimolekularen Menge
Maleinsäurediäthylester bei ca. 105 bis 110°C zur Reaktion gebracht. Das Reaktionsprodukt wird durch
Kochen mit konzentrierter Salzsäure verseift.
Nach der sauren Hydrolyse des Esters wurde das gebildete NaCl abgetrennt und die restlichen Natriumionen
mittels Ionenaustauscher entfernt. Durch Einengen der Lösung wurde die rohe 2,2-Diphosphonobutan-3,4-dicarbonsäure
als halbfeste Paste erhalten.
0,5 Mol Maleinsäuredibutylester wurden in Gegenwart von 20 ml gesättigter Natriumäthylatlösung bei ca.
100°C mit 0,5 Mol Phosphonoessigsäuretriäthylester umgesetzt. Das Natriumalkoholat wurde mit Essigsäure
neutralisiert und das Reaktionsgemisch im Vakuum (195
v, bis 2050C; Druck 0,3 mm Hg)destilliert.
Der so gewonnene Ester wurde durch Kochen mit Salzsäure hydrolysiert. Die durch Eindampfen erhaltene
l-Phosphonopropan-l,2,3-tricarbonsäure wurde mit Natronlauge unter Einstellung auf einen pH-Wert von
12 in das Pentranatriumsalz überführt. Durch Zugabe von Methanol wurde das Salz in kristallisierter Form
erhalten. Das Atomverhältnis P: C: Na betrug 1 : 6,3:4,9(berechnet 1 :6:5).
Γ)5 Beispiele
Es wurde die komplexierende Wirkung der nachstehend angeführten Verbindungen gegenüber Calcium
mit Hilfe des sogenannten Hampshire-Tests bestimmt. Zu diesem Zweck wurde jeweils 1 g Substanz in 100 ml
bo Wasser gelöst, mit 2 η-Natronlauge auf pH 12
eingestellt und 10 ml zweiprozentige Sodalösung zugesetzt. Anschließend wurde Calciumchloridlösung
b's zur bleibenden Trübung zugetropft, v»iobei der
pH-Wert konstant gehalten wurde.

Das Komplexierungsvermögen gegenüber Eisen in sodaalkalischer Lösung von 1-Phosphonopropan-1,2,3-tricarbonsäure
und !,i-Diphosphonopropan^S-dicarbonsäure
ist aus der nachstehenden Tabelle ersichtlich. Dabei wurde folgende Versuchsanordnung angewandt:
Jeweils 10 ml einer O.OImolaren FeCb-Lösung wurden
mit 15 ml einer Lösung versetzt, die 5 mMol Soda enthielt. Diesen Lösungen wurden steigende Mengen
der in den Tabellen 1 und 2 angegebenen Komplexbildner zugefügt und zum Sieden erhitzt.

Das Komplexierungsvermögen gegenüber Kupfer in sodaalkaüscher Lösung von 1-Phosphonopropan-1,2,3-tricarbonsäure
und l,1-Diphosphonopropan-2,3-dicarbonsäurf: ist aus der nachstehenden Tabelle ersichtlich.
Dabei wurde folgende Versuchsanordnung angewandt:
Jeweils 10 ml einer O.Olmolaren CuG2-Lösung wurden
mit 15 ml einer Lösung versetzt, die 5 mMol Soda enthielt Diesen Lösungen wurden steigende Mengen
der in den Tabellen 3 und 4 angegebenen Komplexbildner zugefügt und zum Sieden erhitzt.

Aus der nachstehenden Tabelle 5 ist das Komplexie rungsvermögen von l-Phosphonobutan-2,3,4-tricarbon
säure gegenüber Eisen und Kupfer in sodaalkalischei Lösung ersichtlich. Zur Bestimmung wurden jeweih
10 ml einer O.Olmolaren FeCb- bzw. CuCb-Lösung mi 15 ml einer Lösung versetzt, die 5 mMol Soda enthielt
Diesen Lölsungen wurde der Komplexbildner ir steigenden Mengen, wie in der Tabelle 5 angegeben
hinzugefügt.

Wasser mit verschiedenen Härtegraden, auf höhere Temperaturen erhitzt, wurden die im Beispiel 1
angeführten organischen Verbindungen in Mengen vor 2 bis 50 mg/1 in Form der Alkalisalze jeweil:
hinzugefügt. Hierdurch wurde Inkrustation an der Apparateteilen, insbesondere den Heizaggregaten
weitgehend unterdrückt, da die Ausfällungen fast völlig amorph sind und nicht zu Inkrustationen führen. Bei
Verwendung größerer Mengen war auch ein starker Rückgang der Ausfällungen insgesamt festzustellen.
Beispiel 11
Als Flaschenspülmittel, welches Versteinungen auch bei längerer Anwendung in der Warmwasserversorgung
verhindert, wurde ein Produkt der nachstehenden Zusammensetzung in einer Konzentration von 1 bis 2%
verwendet:
78% Ätznatron
4,5% Natriumsilikat (SiO2: Na2O = 3,35)
1,75% Antischaummittel
5% l,l-Diphosphonopropan-2,3-dicarbonsäure
in Form des Natriumsalzes
Rest Natriumsulfat
Rest Natriumsulfat
Beispiel 12
Mit einem festen Reinigungsmittel der folgenden Zusammensetzung:
60% Ätzalkali
20% Trinatriumphosphat, wasserfrei
5% Natriumsilikat (SiO2 : Na2O=335)
2,5% nichtionogenes Antischaummittel
1,25% 1 -Phosphonopropan-1,23-tricarbonsäure
in Form des Natriumsalzes
1,25% Aminotri-(methylenphosphonsäure) in
Form des Natriumsalzes
10% Natriumsulfat
wurden in einer handelsüblichen Flaschenspülmaschine Bier-, Limonaden- und Mineralwasserflaschen gereinigt.
Die Anwendungskonzentration betrug 1,5% und die Temperatur der Reinigungslauge ca. 75° C Auch nach
langer Verwendung war keine Belags- und Steinbildung in den Spulmaschinen zu beobachten.
Zur Reinigung von Metallteilen wurde in einer Konzentration von O,5°/o ein Reinigungsmittel folgender
Zusammensetzung verwendet:
44,0% Trinatriummonophosphat 50% Natriummetasilikat 1,5% nichtionogenes Netzmittel
4,5% l,l-Diphosphonopropan-2,3-dicarbonsäure in Form des Kaliumsalzes
Als Textilwaschmittel wurde ein Reinigungsmittel folgender Zusammensetzung verwendet:
42% Tetranatriumdiphosphat 5% Natriumsilikat
15% Perborat
15% Perborat
8% Dodecylbenzolsulfonat 4% Natriumseife (Kokosfettsäure) 5% 1 -Phosphonobutan^^-tricarbonsäure
in Form des Natriumsalzes Rest Natriumsulfat und Wasser Die Anwendungskonzentration betrug 5 g/l. In der
Waschmaschine zeigte sich auch nach längerem Gebrauch keine Ablagerung.
Beispiel 15
In einer handelsüblichen Flaschenreinigungsmaschine mit zwei Laugenzonen wurden Bierflaschen gereinigt.
In beiden Laugenzonen wurde eine Reinigungslösung verwendet, die 1% Natronlauge enthielt und der in einer
Konzentration von 0,2% ein Wirkstoffkonzentrat der folgenden Zusammensetzung:
30% Phosphorsäure
6% l,l-Diphosphonopropan-2,3-dicarbonsäure
6% Aminotri-(methylenphosphonsäure)
20% nichtionogenes Netzmittel (Umsetzungsprodukt
20% nichtionogenes Netzmittel (Umsetzungsprodukt
von Polyglycerin mit 7 Mol Propylenoxid)

zugesetzt wurde. Die Reinigungslösungen wurden bei einer Temperatur von etwa 60° C angewendet und nach
Bedarf durch Zugabe von Natronlauge und Wirkstoffkonzentrat ergänzt. Eine Steinbildung in der Warmwasserzone
konnte auch nach längerer Anwendung nicht festgestellt werden.
