Aus dem Stand der Technik sind Spanntürme bekannt, die eine turmartige Form und einen quadratischen oder mehreckigen Grundriss aufweisen und auf einer Träger-Palette montiert sind, diese ermöglicht den gesamten Spannturm durch einen anderen Spannturm schnell zu ersetzen. Auf den eigentlichen, senkrechten Spannflächen können mittels T-Nuten, Gewindebohrungen oder speziellen Öffnungen, die Werkstücke mit Spannpratzen, Spanneisen, Spannbacken oder spezielle Spannmittel, wie Schraubstöcke, Spannfutter oder ähnliches, mechanisch, magnetisch, hydraulisch oder pneumatisch positioniert und fixiert werden. Spanntürme sind meistens auf drehbaren Positionier-Einheiten montiert, so dass die einzelnen Spannflächen und somit die darauf Positionierten Werkstücke automatisch auf die Bearbeitungsebene des Werkzeugs gebracht werden können. Spanntürme werden bevorzugt auf horizontalen Bearbeitungsmaschinen und für die Metallbearbeitung eingesetzt.
