发明背景
效果颜料,也称为珠光或珍珠光泽颜料,以使用已经涂有金属氧化物层的层状基底例如云母或玻璃薄片为基础。作为光反射或折射的结果,这些颜料呈现类似珍珠的光泽,并且依赖于金属氧化物层的厚度,它们也可以呈现干涉颜色效果。
涂二氧化钛云母和涂氧化铁云母效果颜料是工业中最常遇到的效果颜料。在另一种材料上已涂有金属氧化物的颜料也为本领域所公知。
仅含有单一的高折射率材料涂层的商售效果颜料仅在材料之间提供两个反射界面。因此这两个材料界面(和反射)仅引起从薄片表面获得的反射率。由此大部分的入射光被传送穿过薄片,然而这些光对于构成颜料的珠光外观是必须的,这还消除了效果颜料其它期望的性质,例如光泽、色度和遮盖力。为抵抗这种结果,本领域或者将效果颜料与其它颜料混合,或者在效果颜料上添加透射和/或选择性吸收材料的附加层。
描述多层涂覆效果颜料的现有技术的例子包括JP7-246366、WO98/53011、WO98/53012和US4,434,010。所有这些现有技术要求每一涂覆层具有等于希望发生干涉的波长的四分之一的整数倍的光学厚度。这种所谓四分之一波长叠层的构造在薄膜工业中被广为接受和使用。由于这种限制,为构建每个单独的可见光谱内干涉颜色中的一种,必须有唯一的层厚组合。基底仅为为呈现不同干涉颜色的所有组合物所共用的单一尺寸。
已经发现不必须遵循四分之一波长叠层,并且无需满足该要求也能获得适宜的产品,该产品甚至在光泽、色度和遮盖力方面的具有相当大的优点。另外,可以实现许多其他优点。
因此本发明的目的是提供一种新型多层效果颜料,该颜料相对于其它效果颜料具有改进的光泽、色度和/或遮盖力。
发明概述
本发明涉及一种多层效果颜料,更具体而言,涉及一种多层效果颜料,该颜料包含一种其上有透明高折射率材料层的透明基底以及至少一对透明高折射率材料和透明低折射率材料层,其中总层数是奇数,每两个相邻非基底层的折射率相差至少约0.2,并且其中至少一层具有不同于所有其它层的光学厚度,由此该颜料不是四分之一波长叠层。
发明详述
依据本发明,该效果颜料是一种由透明基底构成的多层产品,该基底上具有奇数层并且其中至少一层具有不同于所有其它层的光学厚度,由此使该颜料不是四分之一波长叠层。
任何可包封的光滑透明薄片都能用作本发明中的基底。适宜的薄片例子包括天然或合成云母、高岭土、玻璃薄片以及类似物。基底无需完全透明,但优选必须具有至少约75%的透射率。薄片形基底的尺寸本身不关键,并且可调整以适应具体用途。通常,该颗粒具有平均约5-250微米、优选5-100微米的最大主要尺寸以及约大于5的长宽比。其比自由表面积(BET)通常为约0.2~25m2/g。
包封基底的层在高折射率材料与低折射率材料之间交替。高折射率材料可以是锐钛矿型二氧化钛、金红石型二氧化钛、氧化铁、二氧化锆、氧化锌、硫化锌、氯氧化铋或类似物。低折射率材料可以是二氧化硅、氟化镁、氧化铝、聚合物如聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯、聚苯乙烯、乙烯醋酸乙烯酯、聚脲、聚氨酯、聚二乙烯基苯以及类似物。可以选择这些材料的任意组合,只要相邻层的折射率相差至少约0.2,更优选至少约0.6。这些材料是透明的,但是,象氧化铁和氧化铬,也可以具有吸收组分。
可用本领域公知的技术将各层涂覆到基底上以及相互涂覆。可以采用任何这种技术。本发明的一个优点在于可用溶胶-凝胶法涂覆这些涂层。这种技术是公知的并且广泛用于薄膜沉积,该技术也是安全、经济的并且可适应宽范围的颗粒形状和尺寸。一些现有技术中采用的化学气相沉积法具有一系列负面作用,包括安全危害、昂贵的试剂及基础设施以及基底粒度的限制。整体式网基多层涂覆技术也被现有技术所采用,其具有这样的缺点,即在涂覆了涂层之后才形成颜料颗粒,由此在层中的断裂点具有不连续性。在将整体材料破碎之后还必须对颗粒进行分级,而在本发明中,可以在涂覆之前预定粒度并使其恒定。
本发明的另一个优点在于基底和所有的层都具有可测的透射率,由此当改变观测角时,所得颜料可以表现出独特的角依赖反射能力,该反射能力从几乎全部反射变动到基本透射。现有技术中的许多多层涂覆颜料用金属薄片作为基底,这种金属层不能透光,因此所得颜料是完全不透明的。
由于该颜料不是四分之一波长叠层,因此可使与基底相邻的第一层的厚度固定,可以通过改变其它层的厚度制备所有期望的干涉颜色。
尽管可以采用等于或大于三的奇数层,但是已经发现当采用三层时的实质优点,因此是优选的。
低折射率优选氧化硅,尽管可以具有其它的厚度,但是优选氧化硅层具有约20-80nm的厚度,更优选约40-80nm。这使二氧化硅膜中固有的角度依赖颜色偏移程度数最小。厚度超过80纳米的二氧化硅层生成并不总是期望的宽范围的角度依赖颜色。
基底上的第一层与最外层可以相同或不同,但是优选相同,并且更优选为二氧化钛。可以理解当该第一层和最里层具有固定的厚度并且低折射率层也具有预定的厚度时,最外面的高折射率层将以其厚度控制干涉颜色。因此基底/第一层/第二层的组合充当一种普遍基础,由该基础可以通过简单地改变第三层的厚度来获得所有的干涉颜色。当第三层为二氧化钛时,通常这样设置其厚度,即从约40nm到250nm,优选约60-170nm。
本发明的产品可以用于任何已经使用珠光颜料的用途中。由此,本发明的产品在所有类型的汽车和工业涂料中、尤其在需要深色亮度度的有机彩色涂料和油墨领域中有无限用处。例如,可以以主色(master tone)或造型试剂(styling agent)使用这些颜料,以给所有类型的汽车或非汽车车辆喷漆。类似地,可将它们用于所有粘土/胶木/木材/玻璃/金属/搪瓷/陶瓷以及非多孔或多孔表面上。可以粉末涂料组合物的形式使用该颜料。也可将其结合入适合玩具业或家庭使用的塑料制品中。这些颜料可以浸渍到纤维中以赋予衣物和地毯新的和富于美感的颜色。可以将它们用于改善鞋、橡胶和乙烯基/大理石地板、乙烯基壁板以及所有其它乙烯基产品的外观。此外,可将这些颜色用于各类模塑个人喜好品中。
上述组合物(其中本发明的组合物是有用的)为本领域普通技术人员所公知。实例包括印刷油墨、指甲油、漆、热塑性和热固性材料、天然树脂和合成树脂。一些非限定性的例子包括聚苯乙烯和其混合聚合物;聚烯烃,尤其是聚乙烯和聚丙烯;聚丙烯酸化合物;聚乙烯基化合物例如聚氯乙烯和聚醋酸乙烯酯;聚酯和橡胶;以及由、纤维素醚、纤维素酯、聚酰胺、聚氨酯、聚酯例如聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯以及聚丙烯腈、粘胶纤维制成的丝。

在化妆和个人护理领域中,这些颜料可以用于眼部以及所有外部或洗去(rinse-off)应用中。由此,可将它们用于各种(胶状或液体)的发胶、扑面粉、leg-makeup、驱虫洗剂、睫毛饼/膏、指甲油、洗甲水、芳香洗剂和香波中。此外,可将它们用于剃须膏(喷雾剃须膏、无刷剃须膏、泡沫剃须膏的浓缩物)、skin glosser stick、皮肤用化妆品、爽发膏、眼影(液体、油状、粉末、棒状、压缩或膏状)、眼线、古龙香膏、古龙水、古龙润肤剂、泡沫剂、体用洗液(增湿、清洁、止痛、收敛),剃须后洗液,浴后乳液以及防晒露。
为进一步阐述本发明,以下列出各种实施例。除非另有说明,否则在这些实施例以及该说明书和权利要求全文中,所有份数和百分数都以重量计并且所有的温度都是摄氏度。
实施例1
将420ml异丙醇溶液、32ml蒸馏水和4ml 29%NH4OH水溶液加到1升的莫顿烧瓶中。向此搅拌的溶液中添加300克涂有TiO2的白色反射玻璃薄片粉末(G130L,Reflecks Pinpoints of Pearl,Engelhard Corporation)。搅拌所得的悬浮液并加热到60℃。
将一份33.2克的四乙氧基硅烷添加到该搅拌18小时的悬浮液中。然后将该悬浮液真空过滤,将滤饼在烘箱中120℃下干燥16小时。干燥产物量为307.4克,整体颜色是在反应悬浮液中不能看出的淡红色。
将550ml软化水和278克如上制备的涂有二氧化硅的中间体加到2升配有加热、搅拌和温度控制的莫顿烧瓶中。将此经搅拌的悬浮液的pH值调节到1.5,将温度设定在79℃。在将pH保持在1.5的同时,以恒定速率经60分钟添加16.7克18%SnCl4·5H2O溶液。添加之后,将该悬浮液在设定的温度和pH点搅拌30分钟。然后在将pH保持在1.5并将温度保持在79℃的同时,经60分钟添加50ml 40%TiCl4水溶液。将该悬浮液过滤、用水漂洗滤饼并在120℃下干燥16小时。终产物的产量为315克。
将小部分(5克)涂有TiO2的终产物在600℃下煅烧20分钟。以硝基纤维漆中12%粉末的压延物(drawdown)的形式,将120℃干燥的产物与600℃煅烧的产物都与单层涂覆的原料(G130L,Engelhard Corporation)对比。目视和以仪器评价所有试样的反射能力。通过涂覆两层附加层,G130L原料被赋予大大提高的反射能力。
实施例2
将900ml异丙醇溶液、190ml蒸馏水和17ml29%NH4OH水溶液加到2升的莫顿烧瓶中。向此搅拌的溶液中添加300克涂有TiO2的白色反射云母粉末(Timica SparkleTM,110P,Engelhard Corporation)。
将一份176.8克的四乙氧基硅烷添加到该搅拌18小时且为60℃的悬浮液。然后将该悬浮液真空过滤,将滤饼在烘箱中120℃下干燥16小时。涂有二氧化硅的产物的产量为355克,该材料整体上呈现在反应悬浮液中不能看出的淡红的反射颜色。
将1000ml软化水和150克由以上涂覆步骤获得的涂有二氧化硅的中间体加到3升配有加热、搅拌和温度控制的莫顿烧瓶中。在以恒定速率搅拌的同时,将此悬浮液加热到74℃设定点并将pH值调节到1.6。然后,在将pH保持在1.6的同时,经15分钟将23.5克18%SnCl4·5H2O溶液泵入该悬浮液中。添加之后,将该悬浮液搅拌30分钟。
在将悬浮液的温度、搅拌速率以及pH保持在先前添加试剂时的值的同时,以0.65ml/分钟的速度向该悬浮液中添加40%的TiCl4水溶液。添加期间,将少量的该悬浮液涂到黑色玻璃片上以监测颜料薄片的光泽和颜色。在加入100ml TiO4溶液后,颗粒的光泽仍没有提高,终止添加,过滤该悬浮液过滤并在120℃下将产物干燥。产物的产量为170克。以硝基纤维漆中3%颜料的压延物的形式,将该产物与单层涂覆的原料(Timica Sparkle)对比。该干燥的涂料呈现比原料差的光泽和严重的颗粒团聚。
实施例3
将420克涂有氧化铁的硼硅酸盐薄片(G270L,REFLECKSTMBlazing Bronze,Engelhard Corporation)、590ml异丙醇、45ml水和5.6ml29%NH4OH的料浆在反应容器中加热到60℃并搅拌。然后将46.5克四乙氧基硅烷添加到该料浆中并在此温度下搅拌20小时。真空过滤该料浆,将产物在135℃下干燥24小时,得到432.2克产物。将416克上述涂有二氧化硅的产物在756ml水中的料浆在反应容器中搅拌并加热到79℃。将该料浆的pH值调节到1.5。在用10%Na2CO3溶液将pH值保持在1.5的同时,将含8.93克SnCl4·5H2O的水溶液经2小时泵送入该料浆中。添加完成之后,将料浆温度升高到82℃并用10%Na2CO3溶液将pH值调节到3.0。在用10%Na2CO3溶液将pH值控制在3.0的同时,以0.4g/min将39%FeCl3水溶液泵入。在加入81.8克铁溶液后停止添加,然后真空过滤该料浆,用水洗涤滤饼,之后在650℃下煅烧90分钟。
以硝基纤维漆中12%粉末的压延物的形式,比较煅烧产物和基础涂有氧化铁的玻璃薄片二者。可以看出煅烧产物表现出反射能力和色度比基础材料更好的青铜色色调。
实施例4
将420克涂有二氧化钛的硼硅酸盐薄片(G310L,REFLECKSTMPinpoints of Pearl,Engelhard Corporation)、590ml异丙醇、45ml水和5.6ml 29%NH4OH的料浆在反应容器中加热到60℃并搅拌。然后将46.5克四乙氧基硅烷添加到该料浆中并在此温度下搅拌20小时。真空过滤该料浆,将产物在135℃下干燥24小时,得到432.2克产物。用416克上述涂有二氧化硅的产物在756ml水中在反应容器中制备料浆、搅拌、并加热到79℃。将该料浆的pH值调节到1.5。在用10%Na2CO3溶液将pH值保持在1.5的同时,将含8.93克SnCl4·5H2O的水溶液经2小时泵送入该料浆中。添加完成之后,将料浆温度升高到82℃并用10%Na2CO3溶液将pH值调节到3.0。在用10%Na2CO3溶液将pH值控制在3.0的同时,以0.4g/min将39%FeCl3水溶液泵入。在加入81.8克铁溶液后停止添加,然后真空过滤该料浆,用水洗涤滤饼,之后在650℃下煅烧90分钟。
以硝基纤维漆中12%粉末的压延物的形式,比较煅烧产物和涂有氧化铁的基础玻璃薄片二者。可以看出煅烧产物表现出反射能力和色度比基础材料更好的青铜色色调。
实施例5
通过运行采用1微米厚玻璃基底的本发明的颜料的薄膜模型软件仿真得到以下数据。第一行代表如实施例1中所述制备的白色珍珠状试样。

添加13份本发明颜料与1份高岭土的混合物并混合至所有颜料都充分分散。如果期望,加入香料并搅拌混合。将所得混合物倒75±5℃的模具,使之冷却并烧成唇膏。
可在本发明中进行各种改变和变形而不偏离其精神和范围。本文中例举的各种实施方式仅为解释说明本发明而提出,但无意局限于此。
Claims (25)
1.多层效果颜料,包含
透明基底,其上有透明高折射率材料层,
至少一对透明层,其一为高折射率材料,另一为低折射率材料,
其中总层数为奇数,每一层与任意相邻层之间的折射率相差至少约0.2并且至少一层具有不同于所有其它层的光学厚度,由此颜料不是四分之一波长叠层。
2.权利要求1的多层效果颜料,其中所有高折射率材料层是相同材料,所有低折射率材料层是相同材料。
3.权利要求2的多层效果颜料,其中高折射率材料是二氧化钛,低折射率材料是二氧化硅。
4.权利要求3的多层效果颜料,其中每一二氧化硅层的厚度约为40-80nm。
5.权利要求4的多层效果颜料,其中总层数是三。
6.权利要求5的多层效果颜料,其中相对于基底的最外面的二氧化钛层具有比任何其它二氧化钛层更大的厚度。
7.权利要求6的多层效果颜料,其中透明基底上的最外面的二氧化钛层具有约60-170nm的厚度。
8.权利要求1的多层效果颜料,其中高折射率材料包含二氧化钛或氧化铁,低折射率材料为二氧化硅。
9.权利要求8的多层效果颜料,其中每一二氧化硅层的厚度约为40-80nm。
10.权利要求1的多层效果颜料,其中总层数是三。
11.权利要求10的多层效果颜料,其中相对于基底的最外面的层具有比任何其他层更大的厚度。
12.权利要求11的多层效果颜料,其中透明基底上的最外面的层具有约60-170nm的厚度。
13.包含颜料的涂料或油墨组合物,其特征在于所述颜料是权利要求1的效果颜料。
14.包含颜料的塑性组合物,其特征在于所述颜料是权利要求1的效果颜料。
15.包含颜料的化妆品组合物,其特征在于所述颜料是权利要求1的效果颜料。
16.制备多层效果颜料的方法,包括:
提供透明基底,其上有高折射率透明材料层,
依次在以涂覆的基底上涂覆一层低折射率透明材料和一层高折射率透明材料,选择这些材料以使每层与每一相邻层之间的折射率相差至少约0.2,并且控制涂层以使基底上的至少一层具有不同于所有其它层的光学厚度,由此所得的颜料不是四分之一波长叠层。
17.权利要求16的方法,其中高折射率材料包含二氧化钛或氧化铁,低折射率材料为二氧化硅。
18.权利要求17的方法,其中每一二氧化硅层的厚度约为40-80nm。
19.权利要求18的方法,其中总层数是三。
20.权利要求10的方法,其中相对于基底的最外面的二氧化钛层具有比任何其他二氧化钛层更大的厚度。
21.权利要求15的方法,其中透明基底上的最外面的二氧化钛层具有约60-170nm的厚度。
22.权利要求16的方法,其中低折射率材料是二氧化硅并且每层二氧化硅的厚度约为40-80nm。
23.权利要求16的方法,其中总层数是三。
24.权利要求16的方法,其中相对于基底的最外面的层具有比任何其他层更大的厚度。
25.权利要求16的方法,其中透明基底上的最外面的层具有约60-170nm的厚度。
