The present invention relates to a watch case comprising a protective cap made of extra-hard material.
It also relates to a method of manufacturing said box, by molding a material capable of being made extra-hard.
The fixing of the caps made of extra-hard material, which are often very shattering, especially when they are made of ceramic, on a box body, poses many problems. It has been proposed to interpose between the box body and the cover a ring made of soft material which deforms when the cover is put in place and ensures that it is held in place. However, even though the material of said ring is softer than that of the cap, assembly accidents occur, during which the caps break.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a means for fixing such caps which does not have this drawback.
The watch case according to the invention is characterized in that said cover is held in place by screws, perpendicular to the plane of the case, passing through an element of the latter and taking in threaded studs reported, at least partially embedded. in the material of the cap.
The method is characterized by the fact that cavities are made in the cap during its shaping and said cavities are filled with a material softer than that of the cap so as to produce said studs.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
The figure is a partial axial section of a watch case.
The watch case shown comprises a carrurelunette 1, a crystal 2 in hard material, of the so-called Sapphire type, forced into the middle-bezel 1, with the interposition of an annular gasket 3 serving both to ensure the seal and to maintain ice in place.
The box is protected by a cover 4, engaging on a beat 1a of the middle-bezel 1, and which has a rim 4a, directed inwards, covering and concealing the annular lining 3. This cap or cap is made of an extrarded material, such as a sintered metal, a metal carbide, a ceramic or the like; it will be obtained by molding and, in particular in the case of a metal, by sintering.
It constitutes an element of protection as well as of decoration of the box, resistant to shocks and not scratching.
The cover 4 is assembled to the middle-bezel 1 by four screws 6 passing through the latter and taking in threaded studs 7, reported, embedded in the material of the cover and made of a substance softer than the latter, for example brass, solder, especially silver.
The heads 6a of the screws 6 are engaged in housings lb formed in the underside of the caseband-bezel 1 so as to be embedded in the body thereof.
According to one method of manufacturing the box, cavities or hollows 8 are made in the cap, during the molding thereof, using refractory plugs or cores placed in the mold and extracted from the cap after cooling, then the material of the pads is poured into these cavities. The latter, thus produced in a material softer than that of the cap, can be drilled and tapped according to the usual machining methods, in particular using templates. As a variant, the studs may consist of pins or welded sleeves, driven into the cavities of the cover or fixed, for example, by welding.
Also in a variant, when the cap is obtained by sintering, the hollows 8 can be produced by electroerosion, before the sintering operation, when the part has been preformed in the press.
