Description

Fig. 2 zeigt einen Schnitt nach Linie II-II in Fig. 1.

  Rope or cable drum
The present invention relates to a rope or cable drum with side walls and drum cylinders made of wood. Known drum constructions of this type have side walls made of two layers of boards, the direction of which is perpendicular to one another.

The two layers are connected to one another by nails or screws. As a result of the very different growth and shrinkage of the wood in the direction of the grain and perpendicular to it, there are unavoidable tensions that result in loosening of the connections or tearing of the boards. The side walls have little strength against both axial and radial forces acting on them.

These known rope or cable drums are therefore often damaged, and repair is generally very difficult and expensive.

It is the aim of the present invention to provide a rope or cable drum with side walls and drum cylinders made of wood, which allows all the above-mentioned disadvantages of known similar drums to be avoided. The drum according to the invention is characterized in that the side walls are made up of radially arranged individual boards with at least approximately radial fiber direction.

Under these circumstances, each individual board is arranged in such a way that it can optimally absorb forces acting on it. In the axial direction, i.e. H. Forces acting on the board across the grain cause bending stress in the most favorable sense.

Impacts acting radially against the outer end faces of the individual boards and high pressure loads act in the direction of the grain, in which direction the wood has the highest compressive strength.

It is possible to remove and replace each individual board independently of all the others if it should be damaged in spite of the favorable conditions mentioned above. The construction according to the invention has about twice the strength of a known construction of the same side wall thickness against stresses in the radial direction and about four times the strength of stresses in the axial direction.

The economic advantage of this construction clearly results from this situation.

Adjacent side wall boards are preferably secured by springs made of hardwood, metal or the like. connected to increase the strength and rigidity of the side walls.

Furthermore, the drum is preferably designed in such a way that pairs of burners on both side walls which are essentially in the same radial plane are tensioned against the drum cylinder by tie rods. It is known to arrange such tie rods on the inside of the drum wood cylinder in grooves. As a result of this eccentric arrangement of the tie rods far outside the neutral zone of the profile of the drum segments, considerable bending stresses arise both in the drum segment and in the side walls. This disadvantage can be remedied by the fact that the tie rods are practically in the neutral zone of two adjacent drum segments.

In the drawing, an embodiment of the rope or cable drum according to the invention is shown.

Fig. 1 shows the drum partly in front view and partly in radial section
FIG. 2 shows a section along line II-II in FIG. 1.

The drum has a hollow shaft 1 made of steel, to which two inner flanges 2 are welded. With the flanges 2 stiffening ribs 3 are welded, which also serve to stiffen the hollow shaft 1. With the flanges 2 and the ribs 3 are connected by means of spokes 4 and strut bars 5 annular profile supports 7, with which the boards 8 forming the drum cylinder are screwed in a manner not shown.

The side walls of the drum consist of radially arranged solid boards 9, the grain of which is radial. The inner ends of the boards 9 engage between one of the flanges 2 and one outer flange 10 each loosely attached to the hollow shaft 1 from the outside and screwed together with the boards 9 to the inner fixed flange 2. Between adjacent boards 9 are grooves 11 engaging Springs 12 made of hardwood or optionally metal are inserted, which secure the boards in a common radial end and in particular transmit forces to the adjacent boards when an axially directed force acts on a board. The boards 9 are connected by means of screws 13 to the outer support profiles 7 and by means of tie rods 14 to opposite boards 9 which are in the same radial plane.

As Fig. 1 shows, the tie rods 14 are within the wooden cylinder formed by the drum boards 8, in recesses 15 at the joints between adjacent boards 8. The tie rods 14 are practically in the neutral zone of the two adjacent segments, so that the tension forces generated are transmitted as compressive stresses to the boards 8 of the drum cylinder directly within the attack points on the boards 9 and thus cannot generate any deforming bending stresses in the boards 9.
