Portable firearm The object of the present invention is a portable firearm, the reloading of which is effected by the action of a piston subjected to the pressure of the gases during the departure of a shot and whose cylinder head contains a spring firing pin. This weapon is characterized by the fact that the breech is held to slide and tilt in the lower part of a drawer which immobilizes this breech in the closed position by keeping it lowered against a stop integral with the breech box,
this drawer being mounted to slide longitudinally in a housing of this box and intended to be pushed back, against the action of a return spring, by the piston rod, the backward movement first releasing the cylinder head then, causing it to tilt upwards, into a locking position with the slide, which results in its driving backwards, said tilting being caused by sliding two corresponding inclined faces of the cylinder head and of the slide respectively.
An embodiment of the weapon, object of the invention, will now be described by way of example with reference to the appended schematic drawing, in which longitudinal section, the breech being in the closed position.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the cylinder head in the open position.
Fig: 3 is a perspective view of the cylinder head. Fig. 1 is a fragmentary view, in FIG. 4 is a similar view of the drawer. In the weapon shown, the barrel 2 is screwed at 3 in a housing of the breech box. This weapon comprises a device for controlling the opening of the breech by the gases developed when the shot is fired. This device of known type comprises a cylinder 4 for the gases and a piston 5 of the short stroke type, arranged at the top of the barrel. The cylinder is in communication with the barrel by a light 6.
The rear end 5 ′ of the piston rod is guided in a bore l ′ of the cylinder head box and abuts against the front end of a spool 7 of elongated shape. This drawer has, at its front end, a lateral projection 8 which constitutes the cocking lever making it possible to manually open the breech. The drawer 7 has in cross section the general shape of an inverted U provided with two lateral longitudinal guide flanges 9 located at the free ends of the arc of the U. At the top of the arch, that is to say on the web of the U, there is provided a tubular part 7 'located in the drawer 7 and integral with the latter. This part constitutes a housing for a spring 20 for the return of the cylinder head.
On the inner sides of the two branches of the U, and extending from the front end of the drawer 7 a short distance inside thereof, there are two opposing grooves 10, 10. The two branches of the U terminate at a short distance from the end of the drawer with two tilted end faces 24. Said end faces, as well as the remaining part of the core are shaped so as to constitute guide planes for the rear end. of the cylinder head. The remaining part of the core comprises a recess 7 ". The cylinder head designated by the reference numeral 11 consists of a steel part of elongated shape and having a practically square cross section.
It has a longitudinal bore 12 containing the striker biased by a spring. At the rear end are provided two lateral projections 13 having oblique faces 14 directed forwards and downwards. The lower side of the cylinder head 11 comprises, near its rear end, a shoulder 15 having a slightly inclined face. The upper side of the cylinder head 11 comprises at its rear end a vertical extension 16 in the form of a step. Near the front end of the cylinder head 11 are provided two side fins 17, 17 having a slightly inclined upper face.
The cylinder head 11 is held inside the drawer 7 by the lateral fins 17 which slide in the grooves 10, and by the grain 16 abutting from below against the lower side of the core of the drawer 7. The two parts 7 and 11, forming an assembly, are held in the breech box by the flanges 9 of the slide 7 which are engaged in corresponding lateral guide grooves 18 of said breech box.
When this assembly is in the locked position, the slightly inclined shoulder 15 of the cylinder head rests on a similarly inclined face 19, integral with the cylinder head box 1 and extending across the latter. For this position, the front end of the slide 7 abuts against the part of the breech box in which the guide hole 1 'is provided. Drawer 7 is pushed forward against. this part, which forms a stop, by the spring 20 disposed in the tubular housing 7 '.
The operation of the weapon is as follows: each time a shot is fired by means of a hammer acting on the rear end of the firing pin in a known manner (but not shown), the gases are released. relaxing behind the ball, enter the cylinder 4 through the opening 6 and push the piston 5 back violently. This piston then exerts an impulse thrust on the mass of the slide 7. However, the pressure of the propellant gases cannot yet open the cylinder head 11 because the latter is held rigidly in the closed position by its shoulder 15 butting against it. the face 19, and is held in the lowered position (fig. 1) by the rear part 22 of the drawer 7.
The upper face of the front end of the cylinder head 11 has a slight inclination 21 directed towards the rear and the lower face of the slide 7 has a corresponding inclination. These two inclined faces are, for the closed position, strongly biased against each other and remain in this relative position. The shoulder 15 and the face 19 are, as already mentioned, slightly inclined in order to facilitate the coming of this shoulder 15 into the position of contact with the face 19.
As a result of the thrust of the rod 5 'on the slide 7, the latter moves backwards slurrying until said lower part 22 ceases to be in contact with the extension 16. The retreat takes place in a sufficient time. to allow the bullet to exit the muzzle. It is therefore only after this moment that the block 11 is no longer kept lowered, its rear end then being raised by the biasing of the oblique faces 24 of the drawer 7 coming into operating contact with the faces 14 'of the projections 13 of the cylinder head 11. The latter is thus lifted out of its locking position, the extension 16 penetrating into the recess 7 "of the drawer 7.
This relative movement between the yoke 11 and the slide 7 is possible because the guide vanes 17 fit smoothly in the grooves 10 and are of section decreasing towards the rear. The slide 7, together with the cylinder head 11, is then free to continue its opening movement towards the rear of the cylinder head box. An extractor (not shown), housed in the front face of the cylinder head 11 between the parts 21, 21, extracts the empty case and brings it to the ejector (not shown) from where it is ejected.
The cartridge chamber is then available for the next cartridge, which is pushed there by the breech, driven towards the front of the breech box by the return spring 20 which has been compressed beforehand during the opening movement of the cylinder head. cylinder head. The bolt is therefore locked again and ready for firing the next shot.
There is a safety against premature ignition of the cartridge in the event that the spool 7 does not entirely overlap the cylinder head 11, and in the event that the plane 22 slides only partially along the upper plane of the extension 16. In such cases. In this case, an overhanging part 23 acts as a spacer between the hammer and the rear end of the striker, so that the hammer cannot come into contact with said rear end of the striker.
The upper rear part of the vertical extension 16 ends with a sloping face, the function of which is to push the rear end of the cylinder head downwards so that the shoulder 15 comes to rest on the face 19.
The rear edge of part 16 is moved forward with respect to the vertical plane, which is necessary to push down the shoulder 15 of the cylinder head 11 into a position where it cooperates with the face 19 of the cylinder head. breech box in order to ensure the locking of the breech in the closed position, which is achieved by making the breech 11 overlap by the slide 7, as explained above.
