Le bloc 6i3, est poussé cons tamment en avant par -des ressorts. 65, figés par leurs extrémités arrière à des consoles: 66 solidaires du bloc 63;
L'opérateur met en action la pédale qui meut en avant le chariot 26, séparant ainsi les rouleaux de montage 2\2 et 2!3 de ma nière -à permettre l'introduction entre ces. rou leaux .de la partie marginale de la tige. Alors le chariot 216 est .relâché, -de sorte que le res sort 27 ;

Referring to the drawing, 1. Denotes a support: cast iron hollow intended to be mounted *; - for example on a bench. Resting on the top of: this support 1, there is a base plate 2 on which is mounted the frame which supports the single control shaft 4 which rotates in bearings 5, 6 and 7. The bearings 5 and i6 are fixed. to the main part 3 of the frame, while the front bearing 7 is mounted in a part & of the frame protruding on the vertical face of the support 1, so as to present the mounting members in a suitable position -and -that the .
handling of the shoe during assembly is not hampered by contact with the support 1.
Mounted freely on the rear end of the shaft 4, there is a control pulley 9 which can be coupled at will with the shaft by means of the clutch 10 provided with a control lever. 11 - which is connected by a rod 12 to a pedal, not shown, and by means of which the operator can control the clutch and thus couple the pulley 9 with the shaft 4.
A belt 13 passes around the pulley 9 and a pulley 14 on the shaft of a control motor 1.5 @ mounted in the support 1.
The shaft 4 is provided, at its front part, with a worm 116 which meshes constantly with a worm wheel: worm 17 fixed to the upper end of a vertical shaft 18 mounted in bearings in the part 8 -frame and, which is -provided -a pinion 19, with helical den ture, constantly meshing with a pinion 20 fixed to the upper end of a vertical shaft 51 also having bearings in the part. 8 and which is equipped, at its lower part; a roller due assembly 25 provided with a helical rib.
A roller -of assembly, complementary 23 ,,: with a diameter a little smaller than that of the roller 22 ', is attached to the lower end of a vertical shaft 2114 provided, at its end: upper, a worm wheel 25 which constantly meshes with the worm 116. The rollers 2D and 53, thus rotate in the opposite direction.
The shaft 2 (4 rotates in bearings mounted on a carriage 216, able to slide horizontally (fig. 2 'and 3), which is guided in the main part 3 -of the frame and which is constantly pulled back by means of a spring 27 the front end of which is fixed to this carriage 26 and the rear end of which is hooked to a pin P fixed to the frame,
whereby the mounting roller 23 is resiliently urged against the roller 22i. The carriage 2 (6 is provided, one pin 28 projecting laterally (Fig. 2), engaged by a fork lever 29 fixed to a shaft 3'0 to which is fixed an arm 31 articulated to a rod 32. which extends downwards and is connected to a pedal, not shown, the arrangement being such that, when the pedal is pressed, the lever 2:
9 tilts and drives forward the carriage 26 so as to separate the rollers e and 212 and to allow the introduction between them -de la. marginal part of the upper of the shoe.
Immediately under the lower end of the roller 2.3 is disposed a stop 34 presented by a part 35 fixed in an adjustable manner to the carriage 26. On this stop 34 comes to rest the inner face of 1 \ a rib of the first sole of a shoe, and this stopper: thus opposes the tensile force. - rollers - mounting on the rod and thus ensures that the latter is stretched over the form.

The wire is debited by a spool 9,6-a mounted on a pivot 9-7. Which is carried by the plate 2.
The machine -described works as follows: 'the engine 15 is started and the operator actuates the pedal, causing -thus, by means of the clutch 1.0, the coupling -of the pulley 9, with the shaft 4.
This one is therefore in rotation and it turns the -shafts 211 and 24 -by the intermediary -of the endless screw 16, -the same also as the shaft 40 with the eccentric 43 and the disc 45 by means of the endless screw 42.
The operator activates the pedal which moves the carriage 26 forward, thus separating the mounting rollers 2 \ 2 and 2! 3 so as to allow the introduction between them. rolls. of the marginal part of the stem. Then the carriage 216 is released, so that the res comes out 27;
the roller 23 is moved backwards, the material of the rod thus being gripped between the rollers. With their helical ribs of opposite pitch, the rollers rotate in:
in reverse direction, immediately drive up the material of the rod by stretching this rod over the form or shoe tree, the stop 34 resisting the movement from bottom to top of the shoe. During this upward pulling operation, the eccentric 43 and the disc 45 are in rotation, thus giving a rapid back and forth movement to the slider 4.9a and to the pusher & 3,
as well as a movement similar to the expelling member of the clip 59, at the same time as the block 68 executes its movement 'at the appropriate time relative to the others. organs. It is assumed that the slide 49a and the pusher 5'3 are in the rear position as in FIG. 14.
The 8% power supply is actuated by the cam groove 46, of the disc 45 so as to advance the wire 8'0 and to push its end 8 @ Oa (fie. 14) out. the end of the thread guide 75 of a length 80b (fie. 14) sufficient to form a staple. Immediately after, the slide 49a -and the pusher 53 begin to progress until the groove 56, at the end of the pusher 53, comes to grip the length of wire 80b which protrudes.
The pusher 5.3 continuing to advance with its left face - in sliding contact with the - right end of the thread guide 7.5, the thread is cut flush with the end of the thread guide and it remains in. the groove 5.6 is a section of wire S having a length 80b (fie, 15). Immediately after, a $ 16 block is lowered, so that the 6 protrusions:
9 and 70 are placed in the middle of the length of the section S @en -on opposite sides -du wire. Since block 68 'cannot flatten forward, the. central portion of the wire is held stationary and, as the pusher 53 'continues to advance, the wire is bent out. sharp angle on the projection 69 'so as to form the two parallel lateral branches. S 'and 82 (fie.
16) of the clip which are housed in the lateral grooves 58 of the slide 5,7. Block 68 rises immediately, thus releasing the clip to allow it to move forward with pusher 53. The latter continues to advance with the completed clip housed at its front end. until face 55 comes into contact (fie. 26) with the strained material of the rod.
The final forward movement of the evening 53 'a. the effect of pressing firmly over the edge: of the, sole, the material stretched &. the rod and together pinch the marginal part of this rod and the rib- R of the first sole between the face 5.5 of the pusher 53 and the face of the stop 34 on which the rib R.
At this moment, the pusher 5i3 having arrived in its extreme advanced position, the member 59 advances relative to this pusher, engages the rear end .de the clip through its groove 62 and expels the clip -from the housing from pous evening 53, to drive it through the marginal part of the stem and the rib R.
The thrust movement of member 59 is produced by the springs M and has the character of a sudden blow, the cam groove 47 having a radial portion 47a (fie.
9) which allows the sudden release of the roller 67 and the instantaneous advance of the member 519, The ends of the branches of the staple protruding, on the other side of the rib R come into contact with the face of the stop 3'4, shaped so that these ends are folded over and clamped on the rib R.
As soon as the clip has fully penetrated, member 59 is withdrawn and pusher 53 is likewise withdrawn to begin the next cycle of operations.
It will be noted that during the pushing operation, the ,. S1 and S2 branches of the clip are guided in the grooves 58 of the pouusoir 53 so that this clip moves in. a direction perpendicular to the surface of the stop 34 on which the rib R rests and,
let its branches be constrained. . to advance along parallel lines. In this way, the clip can be pushed through very hard and dense substance without distortion. The pusher 53 itself moves in a direction perpendicular to the surface of the stop 34 on which the rib R.
The mounting rollers 52. and 22, by turning, advance the marginal part of the rod, so that the engaging point of these rollers moves gradually, without releasing the tension, the along this marginal part, and thus move the whole of the object to be worked with respect to the stop, the a.Tafage,
continues as long as the operator maintains this assembly in the operative position. The staples are formed and. spurts. at the rate of one unit per revolution of shaft 40. In the machine described, the flow rate is approximately one hundred and seventy-five staples per minute, the speed ratio of the shaft 4'0 to that of shaft 24 being roughly four to one.
