<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

* Multi-layer labeling complex and its manufacturing process ".
The invention relates to a complex formed by at least two labels superimposed and attached in a removable manner, the complex as a whole being firmly attached to a support and the labels bearing complementary prints or intended to follow one another over time.
It is therefore important that we can only take cognizance at a given moment of the only inscription carried by that of the labels which is located, at this moment, at the upper part of the complex and which, in cut, we cannot report. on the complex of labels that have already been separated - Tees from others.
Such "laminated" assemblies are already known in
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
in which the upper layer is a paper label, peelable from a lower layer of polymer film. Double labels are also known consisting of a sheet of strong paper or cardboard folded along a line of perforations so as to form two detachable flaps. @
In the second case, it is always possible to read the wording printed on the lower label and / or on the back of the upper label without having to detach the latter.
In the first case, it is difficult to perform the printing of the lower stratum and when this difficulty is resolved, it is practically impossible to register between the impressions of the upper and lower layers in the case of continuous production, the only manufacturing that is economically viable.
This is why the invention relates to a labeling complex with multiple layers formed by at least two superimposed labels, the back of the lower label being intended to be bonded to a substrate using an adhesive. aggressive aggressive, characterized in that the two opposite faces of two successive labels bear, respectively, one a coating of a layer of an asti-adhesive product and the other a coating of light adhesive and that at least one reserve, corresponding to an area of the periphery of the smallest label and / or of an appendage extending beyond said periphery, is made on the latter face during the coating of adhesives
Of course, each label can be made either of paper or other suitable material,
or in complex and in particular in aluminum-paper complex.
A further subject of the invention is a process for manufacturing
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
cati = continuous labeling complex with multiple layers of the same dimensions from strips and allowing the registration of the prints on the various labels.
This process is characterized in that: a) la. bandage intended to form the labels., the upper label complexes has a width slightly greater than that of the complex to be obtained and the bands intended to form the following labels up to the lower labels have widths increasing in width. order of the superposition. b) each strip receives on the front a succession of texts and / or drawings printed in a known manner at constant intervals, each consisting of the indication that the corresponding label must include and by a marginal transverse mark, those of the strips which correspond to these labels having to present a print on the back receiving this print in a known manner with registration relative to the corresponding front print.
c) each strip then receives, depending on its serial number in the stack to be formed, a coating of non-stick product and / or a coating of light adhesive by a known process, such as the process of he; iogravure, making it possible to spare on the face coated with light adhesive reserves corresponding to areas of the periphery of each of the labels ¯¯¯- d) the bands, lacquered on their edge opposite to that bearing the marginal marks, are then superimposed and pressed after each of them has passed through an adjustment register, known in their own right so as to obtain for each pose 'the alignment of the marginal marks of the different bands on the same transverse line .
e) the assembly thus formed is then cut into
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
elementary complexes, the reference alignments allowing the adjustment of the cross sections.
By way of example, a labeling complex formed by two superimposed labels and intended to be affixed to packaging for the sale of eggs is described below.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of the strip intended to form the lower label of the complex; FIG. 2 is a similar view of a fraction of the strip intended to form the upper label of said complex; FIG. 3 shows in plan the two joined strips; Figure 4 is a partial section on a large scale of the complex strip along IV-IV of Figure 3 ;. Figure 5 is a plan view thereof and Figure 6 is a plan view after separation of the top label.
In the drawing, two bands B1 and B2, both of widths greater than that of the complex C to be obtained, are made up indifferently by a strip of paper or of a usual complex such as the aluminum-paper complex.
Band B1 is intended to form the lower layer of a complex band obtained by the superposition of bands B1 and B2
The width of the B1 band is greater than that of the B2 band i.e. the * margin or overshoot of the B1 band from the format of the complex C is greater than, the margin of the B2 band
In a rotogravure printing station of a rotary machine, the band B1 receives on its front, at constant intervalsē, a series of prints 1 in an area corresponding to the format of the complex C and beyond
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
at this z8ne transverse marginal marks 2 for locating and cutting.
In the example described, the impression 1 is made up of the words "eggs will go". In a second station of the rotary, the front of the strip B1 receives over its entire surface a coating S of a non-stick product. .
In another series of stations of the rotary machine, the B2 strip receives on the one hand, on the front, a series of prints
3 in the example the words "Extra charges" and transverse marginal marks 4 and, on the other hand, a coating on the back
A of a light adhesive, over its entire surface with the exception of the reserves R corresponding to the four corners of the complex C.
The bands B1 and B2, jogged on their edge B2 5b opposite to that bearing the marginal marks, respectively
2 and. %, are superimposed and pressed so as to obtain, by light bonding of B2 on B1, a complex strip (FIG. 3). At least one of the two bands, before being applied against the other, passes into an adjustment register known in itself and making it possible to adjust the band rates with respect to one another. and in such a way that after superimposition the marks 2 and! of each pose are arranged in concordance.
The complex strip is then cut into elementary C complexes by longitudinal D1 and transverse sections
D2 the latter can be adjusted using the points 2 and 4. '
Each elementary complex therefore comprises (FIG. 4) two superimposed labels E1 and E2 secured by the adhesive layer A. Thanks to the non-stick coating S, this bond has a relatively low tensile strength.
When the complex is bonded to the backing formed by the packaging using a strong adhesive, the bond between the reverse side of the label E1 and the backing exhibits a relatively large tensile load.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
Thus when a traction is exerted on the label E2 by gripping it by one of its corners, which is possible thanks to the reserves R, it separates from the label E1 without detaching the latter from its support, without damaging printing ¯1 and without modifying the packaging. In the example shown, this operation is carried out when the "Extra Fresh" mention ceases to be valid, the "Fresh Eggs" mention being replaced (figure 6).
Of course, the adhesive necessary for fixing the complex to its support can be applied by a labeling machine, but it can also be applied at the time of manufacture of the complex in a gluing station of the rotary machine and in this case, it is covered with a non-stick protective paper if coming from an additional strip taking place at the same time as the strips B1 and B2. It is also possible, during manufacture, to coat the back of the label El with an activatable product ensuring the bonding by humidificatioa.
A labeling complex in accordance with the invention can have other applications. It can in particular be used for advertising purposes, the impressions obviously being different from those of the example described. for example, labels El and E2 have, on the front, identical prints such as the brand and product designation, while the label E2 has on the back a print intended for sales promotion: discount voucher, ticket. raffle, collection sticker, etc ...
In such a case, since the E2 label must be kept or returned to the manufacturer, it is important that it be free of all traces of adhesive. For this, it suffices to reverse the order of the coatings S and A (figure 4), that is to say to carry out the coating of adhesive on the front of the label El and the coating
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
of the non-stick product on the back of the E2 label
