Definitions
- the invention relates to a printed and shaped document, said "insert" and a method of manufacturing such documents.
- inserts In the field of printing, especially dedicated to advertising, it is known to produce documents called “inserts” or “leaflets” intended to be inserts in magazines or deposited inside food packaging , especially for promotional operations. Such inserts can also be used in the industrial field as technical information carriers intended to be joined to an apparatus or a product.
- the known inserts can be made with low weight paper to be compatible with continuous production processes involving, inter alia, rotary printing machines. These low weight inserts can have one or more pages. In the case where they consist of a single sheet, they have a sometimes insufficient rigidity immediately perceptible by the reader of a magazine or the recipient of a promotion. In addition, they are relatively difficult to manipulate automatically for insertion in a magazine or food packaging.
- US-A-5,876,784 shows a leaflet according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the invention intends to remedy more particularly by proposing a new insert having a stiffness equivalent to the inserts made in papers with a heavy weight, for example greater than 200 g / m 2 , and which can be produced on a chain of continuous printing and shaping, while it is effectively protected against moisture and / or chemical aggression.
- the invention relates to a printed and shaped document, said "insert” or “leaflet”, comprising a single sheet, this sheet is printed continuously only on a first side which is coated with a protective film, while its second face, opposite to the first, is coated at least partially with a permanent adhesive, the sheet being folded along a fold line, so that its second face is folded back on itself and that its first face, printed and protected, constitute the two opposite sides of the document.
- the insert or leaflet has the same properties as if it were made from a heavy weight paper, that is to say, increased rigidity facilitating its grip, a "cardboard” appearance and improved aesthetics through lamination, so that it is particularly suitable for making advertising inserts for luxury goods, such as perfumes and cosmetics.
- the insert can be made from paper relatively low grammage, because its rigidity is increased by the superposition of the two parts of the sheet, so that it is compatible with continuous production, resulting in an optimized manufacturing cost and a significant reduction in the time it takes to make the document available to its end-user, this delay being particularly important when it comes to launching a promotional campaign.
- the second face is completely folded on itself, no part of it being accessible.
- the second face is partially folded on itself, a flap of the sheet, the second face is exposed, extending a main portion of the sheet whose second side is glued on itself. This flap allows stapling the insert in a magazine.
- the protective film is made of a material compatible with its use in the food industry, in particular polypropylene, which makes it possible to envisage the insertion of the document into a package of a product.

- the band 1 passes through a rotary printing machine 10 comprising roller groups 11 in number corresponding to the number of colors to be applied.
- the machine 10 is used to affix M units only on the top face 1a of the belt 1.
- multiple prints of machines can be arranged one behind the other in the path of the strip 1, each machine is dedicated to a print color.
- the strip 1 then progresses, in the direction of the arrows F 1 , to a laminating and sizing machine 20 in which a polypropylene film 3, previously coated with a suitable adhesive, is unwound from a reel. 21 and applied to the face 1a of the strip 1 with two pressure rollers 22 and 23.
- the film 3 may not be previously coated with adhesive and may be fixed on the strip 1 by virtue of an adhesive applied in the machine 20, in particular a "hot melt” type glue which has the advantage of have a quick grip without the risk of bubbles forming.
- the band 1 passes between two rollers 24 and 25, one of which, namely the roll 25, is constituted by a cylinder "Anilox" bathed in a bath B of permanent adhesive contained in a tank 26.
- the width 26 of the vessel 26 or that of the roller 25 is such that the adhesive layer 27 deposited on the lower face 1b of the strip 1 has a width l 27 substantially equal to half the width l 1 of the In other words, the adhesive layer 27 is affixed to substantially half the width of the strip 1.
- the steps of application of the film 3 and sizing of the face 1b which are here almost simultaneous, can be shifted in time, the application of the film can be earlier or after sizing, these two operations being performed in separate parts of the installation.
- the laminated and glued strip 1 is conveyed, following the direction of the arrows F 1 , to a machine 30 where the face 1b is folded on itself along a line of folding 1 c located substantially in the middle of the width of the strip 1, so that the glued portion and the unsized portion of the face 1 b are firmly pressed against each other.
- the two visible sides of the strip 1 are formed by two parts of his face 1a which is printed and coated with the film 3, that is to say laminated.
- the strip 1 is then conveyed to a cutting machine 40 where the strip 1 is cut at least in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the arrows F 1 , so that the inserts I are formed by cutting before being poured into a tray 41.
- the cutting of the inserts I can take place by any known technique, in particular by means of cutting rollers.

Description
The invention relates to a printed and shaped document, said "insert" and a method of manufacturing such documents.
In the field of printing, especially dedicated to advertising, it is known to produce documents called "inserts" or "leaflets" intended to be inserts in magazines or deposited inside food packaging , especially for promotional operations. Such inserts can also be used in the industrial field as technical information carriers intended to be joined to an apparatus or a product.
The known inserts can be made with low weight paper to be compatible with continuous production processes involving, inter alia, rotary printing machines.
Inserts made from paper of higher grammage could be envisaged but must be made with machines called "sheet", which implies longer lead times, while the basic price of paper used is more Student.
It is these drawbacks that the invention intends to remedy more particularly by proposing a new insert having a stiffness equivalent to the inserts made in papers with a heavy weight, for example greater than 200 g / m 2 , and which can be produced on a chain of continuous printing and shaping, while it is effectively protected against moisture and / or chemical aggression.
In this spirit, the invention relates to a printed and shaped document, said "insert" or "leaflet", comprising a single sheet, this sheet is printed continuously only on a first side which is coated with a protective film, while its second face, opposite to the first, is coated at least partially with a permanent adhesive, the sheet being folded along a fold line, so that its second face is folded back on itself and that its first face, printed and protected, constitute the two opposite sides of the document.
Thanks to the invention, the insert or leaflet has the same properties as if it were made from a heavy weight paper, that is to say, increased rigidity facilitating its grip, a "cardboard" appearance and improved aesthetics through lamination, so that it is particularly suitable for making advertising inserts for luxury goods, such as perfumes and cosmetics. Thanks to the fact that it includes a folded leaflet on itself, the insert can be made from paper relatively low grammage, because its rigidity is increased by the superposition of the two parts of the sheet, so that it is compatible with continuous production, resulting in an optimized manufacturing cost and a significant reduction in the time it takes to make the document available to its end-user, this delay being particularly important when it comes to launching a promotional campaign.
According to a first embodiment of the invention, the second face is completely folded on itself, no part of it being accessible. According to one variant embodiment, the second face is partially folded on itself, a flap of the sheet, the second face is exposed, extending a main portion of the sheet whose second side is glued on itself. This flap allows stapling the insert in a magazine.
According to another advantageous aspect of the invention, the protective film is made of a material compatible with its use in the food industry, in particular polypropylene, which makes it possible to envisage the insertion of the document into a package of a product. food respecting the standards in force and preserving the information printed on the insert of the ambient humidity which may result from the nature of the food products but also from condensation resulting from their storage mode.
- a) imprimer en continu sur une machine rotative des informations sur une première face d'une bande continue en mouvement ;
- b) revêtir cette première face d'un film protecteur ;
- c) enduire au moins une partie d'une seconde face de la bande, opposée à la première, d'un matériau adhésif permanent ;
- a) continuously printing on a rotary machine information on a first face of a moving web in motion;
- b) coating this first face with a protective film;
- c) coating at least a portion of a second face of the strip, opposite the first, of a permanent adhesive material;
- d) folding the strip along a folding line parallel to the direction of advance of the strip, bringing the second face into recovery of itself and
- e) cutting the strip, at least along cutting lines generally perpendicular to the direction of advance, to form the aforementioned documents.
According to variants of the method, steps b) c) can be simultaneous or almost simultaneous or step b) can be before or after step c).
According to another advantageous aspect of the invention, during step c), the strip is coated on substantially half of its width.
According to another advantageous aspect of the invention, during an additional step or during step e), the strip is cut in the vicinity of the fold line and along a cutting line generally parallel to the direction of advance. , in order to separate the fold line from the finalized documents. This allows to evacuate a part of the insert in which the film coating could be imperfectly plated on the printed tape.
The cutting lines advantageously have a geometry defined according to one or more patterns printed on the aforementioned first face.

In a first step of the manufacturing method according to the invention, the
As a variant, the
The width 26 of the
According to a not shown variant of the invention, the steps of application of the
After passing through the
The

In the region of the
Alternatively, the cutting operations in the transverse direction, that is to say the shaping of the

The pattern M affixed to the printed face of the sheet is not limited to the example shown and may have any shape or color, depending on the intended use of the insert or leaflet.
