Les caractéristiques essentielles des présents perfectionnements ressortiront davantage de la description suivante d'un exemple d'exécution non limitatif, schématisé au dessin annexé,, dans lequel la figure 1 est une vue en plan de Isolément de base du siège;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

ADVANCED TILTING SEATS.
The present invention relates to seats of the type in which the seat proper is, at - or towards - its front edge, articulated on a base element and adapted so as to be maintained in its normal position, substantially horizontal, to the intervention of an elastic element, the latter being stretched when the seat is reversed so as to oscillate around its pivot.
It is desirable that such seats are such that the seat proper is maintained in the normal position, i.e. in an unoccupied position, substantially in a horizontal position as long as the person using the seat is seated there. in the normal and usual manner, but is tilted or tilted instantly and gently against the action of the elastic member, when the person shifts his center of gravity by leaning backwards, so that the comfort of the person is favored.,
According to the present invention, the seat comprising in combination, a base element a seat proper pivotally fixed to the base element by a transverse axis arranged towards its front edge,
and an elastic element tending to maintain the seat proper in its substantially horizontal position, is provided with at least one arm, the lower end of which is rotatably mounted on the base element disposed parallel to the pivot of the seat itself. , and the upper end of which is urged by the elastic element so as to constitute a support for the seat itself, so as to ensure a position such that said arm exhibits only a slight inclination backwards with respect to the vertical when the seat is substantially horizontal, a stop being provided to prevent the arm from being moved by said elastic element, forwards, beyond said position.
The essential characteristics of the present improvements will become more apparent from the following description of a non-limiting example of execution, shown diagrammatically in the appended drawing, in which FIG. 1 is a plan view of the base of the seat;
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of part of 1, base element and of the seat itself; Figure 3 is a schematic side view on a reduced scale of a complete seat occupied by a person leaning back.
According to this embodiment, the improved seat consists of a foot or base element 4, supported by four casters and comprising a vertical central axis 6, the upper end of which is rigidly fixed to a cross member; the two ends of said cross member 7 are secured to two parallel support bars 8, 9 having the same length and extending towards 1-'avant ,. The projecting ends of these bars 8, 9 are connected by a rod 10, bearing pivotally in said bars. The rod 10, -combined with deux.barres they 12 secured therein and extending subsequently, constitutes the tilting frame on which rest the seat itself 13 and the backrest 14 of the seat.
The bars 8 are, at a reduced distance from the cross member 7, provided with articulated arms 15,16, capable of oscillating about axes aligned parallel to the rod 10. Each arm is towards its upper end provided with a roller, respectively 15a, 16a capable of rotating about an axis parallel to the rod 10, as well as, at its upper end of a hook 15b, respectively 16b, and, at an intermediate point between its lower end and its roller , of a tongue, respectively 15c, 16c, to which is hooked 1? one end of a coil spring, respectively 17, 18, the other end of which is hooked to a screw, respectively 19, 20, passing through the bar, respectively 8, 9. On the part projecting outwardly of these screws 19, 20 are screwed nuts, respectively 21-22 with knurled head.
Said nuts 21, 22 make it possible to adjust the springs, respectively 17, 18, so that the arms, respectively 15, 16 are, by their rollers, respectively 15a, 16a, in contact with the lower edges of the bars, respectively. 11, 12 and tend to tilt the seat around its pivot 10. However, when the seat proper occupies its normal, substantially horizontal position, the hooks 15b, 16b of the articulated arms 15, 16 respectively hook onto the stops , respectively 11a, 12a provided on the bars, respectively 11, 12, and exclude any upward oscillation dn seat proper, beyond its normal position.
In Figure 2, the seat itself is shown schematically in solid lines. If a person now sits normally on the seat, the seat element itself retains its horizontal arrangement, provided that the tensions of the springs 17, 18 are suitably appropriate for the weight of the seat use. As, in this arrangement of the seat, the arms 15, 16 are approximately vertical, it will be noted that the tension of the springs 17, 1¯8-on the said arms must be only comparatively weak. However, when the occupant moves his center of gravity by pressing backwards, the load urging the springs increases until the moment when the moment of resistance exerted by said springs on the arms 15, 16 corresponds to that exerted by the load.
From this moment, any additional displacement towards the rear of the said center of gravity causes the seat to tilt towards another position of equilibrium (figure 2 - dotted lines), the arms 15, 16 oscillating backwards and the springs, respectively 17, 18 being stretched. By virtue of said oscillating movement of the arms 15, 16, the increase in the moment exerted by the load of the seat itself on the arms 15, 16 is comparatively very fast, so that the tilting movement of the seat is very smooth and comfortable.
During this tilting movement, the front edge of the seat remains at the same level, whereby the user, pressing the backrest of the seat, occupies a very comfortable position, his feet normally remaining in contact with the ground (see figure 3) o
When the person returns to their normal position, the seat automatically follows this movement.
