Tilting seat. The present invention relates to seats of the type in which the seat proper is articulated on a base element in such a way to to be maintained in a normal, substantially horizontal position, thanks to an elastic element, the latter being stretched when the seat is overturned.
It is desirable that the tilting seats are such that the seat itself is maintained in a normal, substantially horizontal position as long as the person using the y seat is seated normally and 'it tilts, we incline against the action of the elastic element, when the person displaces his center of gravity by leaning towards the rear.
According to the present invention, the low culant seat comprises the seat proper which is articulated as a base element. This tilting seat is characterized in that it comprises an elastic element intended to maintain the seat proper in a normal, substantially horizontal position, and in that at least one arm is provided, the lower end of which is provided. laughter is pivoted about an axis arranged pa rallelement to the pivot of the seat proper, the arm being biased by the elastic element and supporting the seat proper, said arm being tilted slightly back when the </ B > the seat itself is substantially horizontal, a stop preventing the oscillation of the arm under the effect of the elastic element,
beyond said position. . The appended drawing represents, to by way of example, an embodiment (read tilting seat, object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the basic element of the seat.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view. side of part of the base element and of the seat itself.
Fig. 3 is a schematic to scale side view of a complete seat occupied by a person leaning back.
According to the embodiment shown, the base-alant seat consists of a foot or base element 4, supported by four castors 5 and comprising a central axis verti- eal 6, the upper end of which is rigidly fixed to a cross member 7; both ends of said cross member 7 are secured to two parallel support bars 8, 9 having the same length and extending forward. The projecting ends of these bars 8, 9 are connected by a rod 10, bearing to pivot in said bars.
The rod 10 and the two bars 11, 12 integral with the latter and extending posteriorly constitute the tilting frame on which the seat itself rests 13 and the backrest 14 of the seat.
The bars 8, 9 are, at a reduced distance from the crossbar 7, equipped with articulated arms 15, 16 , -capable of oscillating around aligned axes, parallel to the rod 10. Each arm is provided, towards its upper end, with a roller , respectively 15a, 16a, being able to rotate about an axis parallel to the rod 10, as well as, to its upper end, a hook , respectively 15b, 16b, and, at an intermediate point between its lower end-Lire and its roller,
of a tongue, respectively 15c, 16c, to which one of the ends of a coil spring is hooked to , respec tively 17, 18, </ B> whose other end is hooked to united screw, - respectively 19, 20, crossing the bar, respectively 8, 9. On the outer part of these screws 19, 20 are screwed nuts, respectively 21, 22, to knurled head.
Said nuts 21, 22 are used to adjust the tension of the springs, respectively 17, 18 # so that the arms, respectively 15, 16, </ B > are, by their pebbles, respectively. 15a, 16a, in contact with the lower edges of the bars, respectively 11, 12, and tend to tilt the seat around its pivot 10. </ B>
However, when the seat is unoccupied, it assumes a normal position which is substantially horizontal; the hooks 1-5b, 16b of the articulated arms, respectively 15, 16, hang on the stops, respectively 11a, 12a, provided on the bars, respectively 11, 12, and exclude any upward oscillation of the seat proper beyond its normal position.
A in fig. 2, the tilting seat is shown in solid lines. If a person now sits normally on the seat, the seat element itself retains its substantially horizontal arrangement, provided that the tension of the springs 17, 18 is well settled. As, in this arrangement of the seat, the arms 15, 16 are approximately vertical, it will be noted that the traction of the springs 17, 18 on said arms should only be comparatively < B> f aible.
However, when the occupant shifts his center of gravity by pressing backward, the load on the springs is reduced until the moment when the moment of resistance exerted by said springs on the arms 15, 16 </ B > corresponds to that exerted by the load. Any additional rearward displacement of said center of gravity causes the seat to tilt towards a balanced position (Fig. 2 - dotted lines), the arms 15, 16 oscillating backwards and the springs, respectively 17, 18, being tensioned.
During the tilting movement, the front edge of the seat remains at the same level, resulting in the seated person being in a very comfortable position, with his feet normally remaining in contact with the ground (see fig. 3 ).
When the person returns to their normal position, the seat follows automatically.
